Sydney Martin

Sydney Martin rejoined the University of Virginia Athletics Department as the Director of Learning Services in December 2024. She previously served at UVA from 2018 to 2020 as a Learning Specialist, later advancing to Assistant Director of Learning Services.
Before returning to UVA, Sydney worked at Florida State University from 2022 to 2024. She initially served as a Learning Specialist before being promoted to Senior Academic Advisor for Football, where she played a pivotal role in supporting student-athletes’ academic success.
Sydney’s career in collegiate athletics also includes a tenure at the University of Idaho, where she held a dual role as Learning Specialist and Academic Advisor. At U of I, she directed the Learning Services Program, taught the College Success Strategies for Student-Athletes course, led the Summer Bridge Program, and provided academic advising for the football team.
Prior to her work in higher education, Sydney gained valuable experience in K-12 education, serving as both a classroom teacher and Intervention Specialist. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Liberal and Civic Studies from Saint Mary’s College of California in 2006, and a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Kennesaw State University in 2010. Sydney later earned a Master of Education with a concentration in Athletic Administration from UVA in 2019.
Sydney is an active member of several professional organizations, including Women Leaders in Sports and the National Association of Academic and Student-Athlete Development Professionals (N4A). She is also a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher.
