Tyler Sakimura

Tyler Sakimura (SACK-ee-MOR-uh) joined the Virginia Athletics Department in July of 2023 as the Assistant Director of Marketing. Sakimura oversees marketing and fan engagement initiatives for UVA women’s basketball, volleyball, softball, field hockey, men’s and women’s tennis, and swimming & diving.

Sakimura came to Charlottesville after graduating from Old Dominion University with a master’s degree in Education, while also concentrating in Sports Management. During the completion of his master’s program, Sakimura served as the Marketing Coordinator for a year and a half within ODU’s Athletics Revenue Generation and Marketing Department. He was responsible for supporting the planning and execution of fan engagement strategies for football events, while also leading game-day activations for Monarch women’s basketball, baseball, women’s soccer, women’s lacrosse, and field hockey teams.

Sakimura graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing with a minor in Sports Management from the University of Mary Washington in 2021. He was a four-year track & field student-athlete, and served as team captain as a sophomore, and Vice President of the Eagles’ Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

An Army brat, Sakimura moved to Williamsburg, Virginia, in 2013 after residing in Washington (state), Kansas, North Carolina and Georgia. He currently resides in Charlottesville.
