Virginia Athletics recognizes there are many unknowns surrounding the 2020-21 men’s basketball season. This page will serve as a resource to fans and will be continually updated with the most current information available.

Capacity

What are the current capacity guidelines at John Paul Jones Arena?
The current capacity guidelines for sports venues provided by the Commonwealth of Virginia under Phase Three of the “Forward Virginia” plan (announced November 13) allow for the lesser of 30% occupancy of the facility or 250 patrons.

Due to health and safety considerations in addition to the current guidelines for sports venues, attendance at home basketball games will be limited to family of student-athletes and the coaches until further notice. Tickets will not be issued to season ticket holders for the opening home game, scheduled to be played against Saint Francis on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at 4 p.m.

When will capacity decisions be made and how will those be communicated?
If capacity guidelines established by state, local and university officials enable fans to attend future games, Virginia Athletics will communicate the change to season ticket holders via email and to the public through a press release to media outlets. Information will also be posted to VirginiaSports.com and to the social media accounts of Virginia Men’s Basketball and Virginia Athletics.

Season Ticket Holders

What do these changes mean for season tickets?
Season tickets and parking will not be distributed for the 2020-21 season. Following the season ticket opt-out process, we will send more information about single-game ticket selections. Seating will be extremely limited and selections will be based on Virginia Athletics Foundation Priority Points.

What should I do if I want to attend games during the 2020-21 season?
If you are interested in attending games during the 2020-21 season, no action is needed. You will automatically be eligible for the ticket selection process for the limited number of tickets that may be available.

What if I do not want to attend any games during the 2020-21 season?
Season ticket holders were provided the opportunity to opt-out of their season ticket status prior to November 13. The option chosen was processed during the week of November 23. By opting out, season ticket holders forfeited their ability to select seats and parking for any/all home games during the 2020-21 season, but will have the opportunity to renew the same seats for the 2021-22 season as long as they maintain their 2020 pledge and payment to the Virginia Athletics Foundation is made in full by December 31, 2020.

Season ticket holders may continue to contact the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office to opt-out for the 2020-21 season. By electing to opt-out of season tickets, ticket holders will be provided with several choices under the Fans First Ticket Program to direct the value of their season tickets. We ask season ticket holders to consider donating the value of their purchase to one of the funds that provide support to UVA student-athletes. The Virginia Basketball program relies heavily on the revenue generated from tickets and parking to fund a national championship caliber team.

Fans First Ticket Program

What options will be available for the value of my season tickets?
Season ticket holders who opt-out of their season ticket purchase or have unused purchase value at the conclusion of the 2020-21 season can choose from the following options under the Fans First Ticket program:

  • Donate the Men’s Basketball Operational Budget – Donate your ticket purchase to the sport’s operational budget via the Virginia Athletics Foundation (VAF) Sport Enhancement Fund (formerly Coaches 10) initiative.
  • Donate to the Athletics Master Plan – Donate your ticket purchase to the Virginia Athletics facilities master plan.
  • Credit – Receive an account credit applied to a future ticket/parking purchase.
  • Refund – Receive a refund for the value of the game(s) canceled

The COVID pandemic has significantly affected the revenue streams that support 750 University of Virginia student-athletes. Season ticket revenue is a critical source of revenue that supports the men’s basketball program. While making the Fans First decision that is right for you, please consider donating your ticket purchase to support Virginia Athletics.

Will I have the opportunity to upgrade/relocate my season tickets/parking this season?
No, due to the uncertainty surrounding the upcoming season, we will not be running the online seat/parking improvement/relocation process this year.

Will I be able to renew my same seats/parking for the 2021-22 season?
2020-21 season ticket holders who maintain the appropriate Virginia Athletics Foundation pledge/payment will be able to renew their 2019-20 seats/parking for the 2021-22 season. All payments must be made in full by Dec. 31, 2020.
