Virginia Coach, Al Groh

General comments…“This is about as well managed a stadium as I’ve ever been in. It was a pleasure to play here. Coach Bowden’s got a fine team. I’ve never met a more gracious coach at midfield at the end of the game than I did with Tommy Bowden. I respect that a great deal.”

On the start of ACC play…“As a result of the events today, we are in the hunt. It’s a long hunt, but we’re in it. There has to be a first step to raise the level of expectations and to learn the difference between really trying hard, and competing. When you compete, you find a way to win, whatever it might be. I thought the players showed a lot of faith in themselves. That was a great college football game in a great environment. “

On preparation…“There were about five or six things that had to be done to win this game. The last one that was repeated on a daily basis was to have the guts to win a close game in the fourth quarter.”

On the game winning touchdown…“It’s a play that we use in those circumstances. In the two-minute drill, players have to have a collective mentality. That’s a play that we run a lot during the course of every week.”

On whether or not there was contact (push-off) on the final play…“There’s contact on a lot of plays. This is a contact game.”
