With his first completion of the game Matt Schaub set a new school record for most passing yards in a season, breaking the previous record of 2510 yards by current UVa wide receivers coach Mike Groh in 1995. Schaub now has 2751 passing yards this season.
Schaub also set a Virginia record for most total offense yards in a season. He now has 2813 total offense yards. The previous record was held by Shawn Moore, who compiled 2583 in 1989.
Schaub’s school-record 26 touchdown passes this season would rank sixth for a career in Virginia history if taken by themselves.
With Billy McMullen’s second reception of the game he became the third player in ACC to have 200 career catches. He finished the game with 7 catches and and now has 205 in his career.
Connor Hughes’ 47-yard field goal in the second quarter was the first of his career and UVa’s longest field goal this year.
Wali Lundy’s two receptions for touchdowns were the first two of his career. His three total touchdowns were also a career high.
Billy McMullen’s touchdown pass to Michael McGrew in the third quarter was his first touchdown pass of the year (and career). It is also the fourth way that McMullen has scored this season (touchdown pass, touchdown rushing, touchdown reception, and two-point conversion).
Matt Schaub’s 249 passing yards was his 8th 200 yard plus passing day of the year, tying with Scott Secules (1987) for most 200 yard plus passing days in a season.
Wali Lundy’s two receiving touchdowns ties him with Heath Miller and Ryan Sawyer for the season high for most receiving touchdowns in a game. He also became the first player this year to have both a receiving and rushing touchdown in the same game.
Spcial teams standout Alex Seals recorded his first career interception when he picked off Scott McBrien in the fourth quarter.
Michael Johnson’s five-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter was the first TD of his career.
Matt Schaub set a new career high with a completion percentage of 85.2% (23-27) breaking his previous career high of 81.5% against Wake Forest earlier this season.
Virginia’s 48 points ties its season high scored against Akron and is the first time they have scored 40 or more points against an ACC opponent since a 45-38 victory over Georgia Tech on Nov. 6, 1999.
Virginia’s 35 point victory is the largest margain of victory since its 38-point win over San Jose State on Oct. 3, 1998.
The 35-point margin of victory is UVa’s biggest ever over a ranked team. The Terrapins came into the game ranked 18th in both major polls. The old record was 32 points (42-10) over #18 N.C. State on Nov. 9, 1991.
The Cavaliers’ six ACC wins are the most they’ve had since a 6-2 record (3rd place finish) in 1998.
