Virginia defensive tackle Nate Collins started for the first time in his UVacareer. Collins is the only true freshman playing for the Cavaliers thisseason.

UVa punter Ryan Weigand¹s 58-yard punt in the first quarter was the longestin his Cavalier career. His previous best was a 52-yard effort vs. NorthCarolina.

UVa tailback Jason Snelling¹s 23-yard reception in the first quarter was hislongest catch of the year and the longest reception by a Cavalier runningback this year.

Today¹s game marks the fifth time this season the Cavaliers held an opponentwithout a touchdown in the first half. Four of those games have come againstACC opponents. Duke, Maryland, North Carolina and NC State failed to scorein the first two quarters against the Cavaliers. Wyoming managed threepoints during the first half in its 13-12 loss to UVa in Scott Stadium.

UVa¹s Cedric Peerman returned the second half kickoff 53 yards, the longestreturn of the season for the Cavaliers and the longest in his career.

NC State¹s John Deraney¹s 33-yard field goal attempt that was wide left washis first miss inside 40 yards this year. He entered the game 5-6 overalland 3-3 inside the 40.

Virginia¹s opponents made their first six field goal attempts of the season,but have missed the last four tries.

NC State did not register a first down in the second half until there wereeight minutes to play.

UVa wide receiver Fontel Mines extended his consecutive streak of catching apass to 20 games today. That is the longest streak of any current UVaplayer.

Virginia¹s Jason Snelling rushed for more than 90 yards for the fourth timethis season. Snelling carried 20 times for 99 yards. He also rushed for twotouchdowns for the first time this season.

This was the third time this season that Virginia held an opponent under 10points. UVa shut out Duke, 37-0, and UNC, 23-0.

Virginia outrushed NC State, 125-70. In the series, the team with the mostrushing yards has won the last 10 meetings and 42 of 49 games since 1944.

UVa quarterback Jameel Sewell continues to rank in first place on severalCavalier freshman record lists and improved his status on:

UVa safety Tony Franklin intercepted his first pass of the season with 1:01 left in the game to end NC State¹s last drive. Franklin now has sixcareer interceptions.

Franklin¹s interception was the only turnover of the game. Since 1983,Virginia is 11-2 vs. NC State when committing fewer turnovers. In addition,the Cavaliers have intercepted one Wolfpack pass in 22 of the last 25meetings.

Virginia Sophomore linebacker Antonio Appleby posted a season-high seventackles for the Cavaliers, tied for the second-highest total of his career.He now has 50 tackles on the season.

NC State¹s John Dunlap set a career-high with 80 yards receiving. He hadfour catches, including a game-tying nine yard touchdown reception with 4:48left in the fourth quarter for his fourth touchdown of the season.

NC State¹s Daniel Evans set a career-high with 220 yards passing and tied acareer-high with 21 completions.

NC State has committed nine or more penalties in four of its five lossesthis season. It is averaging 5.3 penalties a game in the three wins and 8.4penalties in the five losses.

NC State had not been held scoreless through three quarters since the 14-0Baylor loss on Sept. 23, 1995. That game marked the last time NC State wasshutout.

NC State was held to its lowest point total since a 23-6 loss to EastCarolina on Nov. 20, 1999.

In its last two trips to Charlottesville, NC State has score a combined 16points in two losses, 14-9 in 2002, and 14-7 today.

NC State John Deraney punted a season-high nine times and it was the mostpunts since he had 11 against Florida St. in 2004.

With Virginia¹s first quarter touchdown, NC State has now been outscored26-3 in the opening quarter over the last seven games. The Wolfpack has only12 points all season in the first quarter with nine against Appalachian St.and three against Boston College. NCState has allowed a score in the first quarter in six of the eight games,with only Maryland and Akron being held scoreless.

For the second straight week, and the third time this season, NC Statefailed to score in the first half. Maryland led 6-0 last week and Akron helda 7-0 advantage on Sept. 9.

NC State sophomore DaJuan Morgan made his first career start at safety.

NC State junior Demario Pressley started the game at defensive end afterstarting the first seven games at defensive tackle.
