Ryan Dougherty’s 72-yard punt in the first quarter is the longest punt by a Virginia opponent since Adam Anderson of Western Michigan had a 72-yarder in 2003. It is tied for the fifth-longest punt against the Cavaliers.
Jason Snellings’ 29-yard run late in the first quarter is UVa’s longest run from scrimmage this season.
Emmanuel Byers threw his third career touchdown pass on a 22-yard pass to Deyon Williams late in the first quarter. This is the second game in a row he has thrown a TD pass. Byers is tied for 41st in school history in career TD passes.
Byers is one of only four non-quarterbacks to throw as many as 3 career touchdown passes. Halfback Steve Osisek threw six in his career from 1948-50, halfback George Grimes threw five in 1942, 46-47, and halfback Ray Brown threw four from 1944-47.
Cedric Peerman had a season-long 17-yard run late in the first half. His previous long was 16 yards against Wyoming.
Fontel Mines extended his streak to 17 consecutive games with a reception, the longest streak on the team.
Virginia had allowed just four plays of 20-or-more yards in the last two games combined, but gave up four such plays in the first half tonight.
Ben Parziale’s blocked punt early in the third quarter is the third blocked punt by the Cavaliers this year, their most since they blocked three in 1996.
Jameel Sewell dashed for an 18-yard rush on third down in the third quarter for the longest run of his career.
Jeffrey Fitzgerald had two sacks and now has 11 tackles for loss this season. He is only the third freshman in school history with at least 10 TFL. Darryl Blackstock had a record 14 in 2002 and Ahmad Brooks had 13 in 2003.
Chris Long had a season-high three tackles for loss.
Virginia rushed for a season-high 153 yards tonight. The previous high was106 last week against Duke.
