With the 67-62 victory, Virginia snapped a 11-game losing streak in ACC openers (UVa’s last win in an ACC opener before today was an 81-75 win over Florida State on Jan. 4, 1995). UVa is now 20-34 all-time in ACC openers, including 14-16 at home.

UVa scored first for the fifth time in six games this season. Maryland Eastern Shore (Nov. 26) was the only team to score first in a game vs. UVa this season.

Tunji Soroye drew a starting assignment for the first time this season.

UVa did not commit its first turnover until 4:52 remaining in the first half. The Cavaliers had five turnovers in the first half. Virginia had a season-low 9 turnovers in the game.

Ryan Pettinella scored a UVa career-high 7 points. His overall career high is 10 vs. Villanova (Dec. 31, 2004) and Brown (Feb. 18, 2005) when he played at UPenn.

Will Harris (14 points) scored in double figures for the second time in his career (16 vs. Morgan State). All but two of his points came in the second half. He is the first freshman to lead UVa in scoring in a game (J.R. Reynolds also had 14) since Nov. 11, 2005 against Liberty when Mamadi Diane led the Cavaliers with 17 points.

Virginia shot a season-low 37.9 percent (25-66) from the field (38.2 percent (21-55) vs. Purdue was UVa’s lowest).

UVa out-rebounded NC State 47-31. UVa has not been out-rebounded this season (the Cavaliers and Arizona tied with 36 boards).

Jason Cain had a game-high 10 rebounds. It marked the third time this season he has reached double figures in rebounds.

Sean Singletary extended his consecutive free throws made streak to 29 with a 2-2 effort from the line. He is now 41-42 (.976 percent) from the free throw line this season.
