STATEMENT ON THE VIRGINIA ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT’S POLICY ON BANNERS, SIGNS AND FLAGS BY ATHLETICS DIRECTOR CRAIG LITTLEPAGE:
“University of Virginia Athletics Department policy allows the display of signs during games provided they do not contain derogatory comments or profanity; impede another guest’s view of the game; or cover any University signage. To ensure the safety of our fans, signs on poles or sticks are prohibited.
“After the recent Duke football game, the Athletics Department reviewed its longstanding signage policy and determined that certain signs had been removed inappropriately. Consistent with the current policy, similar signs will be allowed at future games.”
Policy on Banners, Signs and Flags
Fans are welcome to display banners in the stadium during games provided the banner does not contain derogatory comments, profanity, impede another guest’s view of the field or cover any stadium signage. Flags and banners on poles or sticks are prohibited. Athletics Event Management reserves the right to remove any sign or banner from the stadium. Athletics will not be held responsible for items that have been confiscated.
