Recap | Final Stats

Head coach Joanne Boyle

“The kids had a lot of fight in them. I can’t ask any more of their effort. They did a great job with the comeback. We changed our defense. We did exactly what we needed to do, getting tips and steals, we got people in traps, they turned the ball over. We finished our layups. For us, it is really about execution in the last five minutes of the game. I think that is where our growth is going to be. We have to get that piece. The great thing is we are going to have another chance to play them in two weeks. We are going to play a lot of tough teams and these games are only preparing us. We’ll get them.”

“The thing we tell China and Kelsey is that in games like this, you can’t have any fear. All we need is someone to be able to handle the pressure. I thought they did a great job. I thought Kelsey did a great job of going to the rim. Really proud of her and how she went out there and didn’t let their pressure get to her.”

“Telia did a great job on the boards for us. I thought she did a great job defensively. We talked about limiting their second-chance points and I thought she really hung in on that and did a great job for us.”

“In the final minute, we were trying some different things. They were trying to double team China, and she was totally exhausted, so we were trying to let Telia bring the ball up and if we didn’t have anything initially, get it back and get something really quick. Mostly we were looking to get it to the rim and get a post touch. That is where our growth needs to be, game management and understanding what you are looking for at the end of a game. Coming out of time outs and really executing your stuff. That is going to be our growth. If we are never put in those situations, we are never going to learn.”
