Virginia Head Coach Steve Swanson

Opening Statement:
“I just want to start by saying how great our fans were tonight, and all season for us. I think I speak for the whole team when I say they were the different tonight. We could feel them with us the whole time. It was fitting we could end the year the way we started – with a win. Michigan was fantastic. It was not a one-sided game; I thought they played very well and very hard. It was hard enough scoring one goal against them let alone two. They were every bit what we thought they would be: hard-working, and they had a lot of grit. I want to congratulate them on a great season. It feels good because we know we beat a good team to get here.”

On moving on:
“At the end of the day, the great thing is we get to stay together as a team. It’s one thing to get to this last stage and it’s another thing to win it. We want to win it. We are going to be very focused on our next game.”

Virginia senior midfielder Molly Menchel

On her game-winning goal:
“Someone played the ball from the right side and it came through, I just made a run there. It hit me, and it hit the post. I saw the goalie dive for it and I’m not sure if it hit my toe or not again, but I saw it cross the (goal) line. It was important that we got that goal, and it was great to score for our team.”

Virginia junior midfielder Morgan Brian

On the pressure of being a No. 1 seed:
“I don’t think there was ever pressure because it seems like every y ear there isn’t a No. 1 seed that makes it to the College Cup. We haven’t dealt with pressure that much this year; we have kept that mentality going into the tournament.”

On this team:
“This is a completely different team than last year; it’s a different mentality, different players. We have a lot better team chemistry than last year. For us, it’s been so special because we love each other like sisters. This is definitely one of our goals – we have two more games and we just have to keep pushing through. We want to do it for our senior class.”

Michigan Head Coach Greg Ryan

Opening Statement:
“First of all, we would like to congratulate Steve Swanson and Virignia. They showed their quality. They are an outstanding team. We played our hearts out. More than anything I want to thank our senior class, not only for our tournament run this year, but for the last four years and helping rebuild this program. They have completely changed soccer at Michigan and I couldn’t be prouder of them.”

Michigan senior defender Holly Hein
“They have an awesome attack going forward and they put a couple behind us. We really fought the whole game, but they got a couple behind us, and that’s the way it goes sometimes. I couldn’t be more proud of our back line and the way we played all year.”
