The Cavaliers opened the game going 1-for-7 from the field, then made eight of their next 11 attempts to take a 20-11 lead. Virginia shot 26.7 percent (16-of-60) for the game.

The Cavaliers first 16 points of the game were scored in the paint. They finished the game with 26 points in the paint. Duke scored 32.

Virginia held the lead for 12 minutes, 21 seconds in the first half, taking its first lead of the game, 8-6, on a fastbreak layup from Ataira Franklin with 13:16 remaining. Duke tied the game with 55 seconds left in the period on a jumper from Tricia Liston.

Virginia’s largest lead was nine, 20-11, on a three-pointer from Faith Randolph at the 9:39 mark of the first half. UVa also held a nine-point lead, 22-13 after a fastbreak layup by Ataira Franklin with 6:12 left in the first half.

The Cavaliers did not score the final 6:12 of the first period. They ended the scoreless drought 2:02 into the second half on a layup from Telia McCall.

Virginia started the game going 1-for-11 from three-point range before Franklin hit the Cavaliers’ second trey of the game with 12:33 left in the second half. The team finished the game shooting 16.7 percent from three-point range (3-for-18)

Franklin scored 15 points with a season-high nine rebounds. She has three career double doubles but none this season. She also had five of UVa’s eight steals.

Telia McCall scored eight points with 11 rebounds.

China Crosby scored seven points, all in the first half. She also had five assists, two steals, and three rebounds

Faith Randolph played 20 minutes, scoring six points with two rebounds and two assists.

The Cavaliers outrebounded the Blue Devils, 42-32. Virginia had 21 offensive rebounds and 21 defensive rebounds.

Virginia was 6-of-6 from the free throw line, the first time this season they shot 100 percent from the stripe. This is the third consecutive game of shooting 80 percent or better from the free throw line.

Virginia is now 0-2 against Top-10 ranked teams this season and 1-4 against teams ranked in the Top-25.
