Virginia Team Notes
• UVa is now 33-33 all-time against Duke.
• UVa now trails in the series at Duke 19-12.
• UVa is now 4-2 all-time under head coach Mike London when coming off a bye.
• Matt Johns started at quarterback for the third game in a row since Greyson Lambert injured his ankle in the second half at BYU on Sept. 20.
• UVa fumbled on its opening drive for the second time this season and for the first time since the Louisville game.
• UVa allowed an opponent to score a touchdown on the opening drive for the second time this season and for the first time since the Louisville game.
• Duke scored a field on goal on its opening drive of the second half to become the first team to score points on its opening drive of the game and second half against the Cavaliers this season.

Virginia Player Notes
• Matt Johns threw for a career-high 325 yards. His previous best was 227 passing yards in his first career start against Kent State this season.
• Miles Gooch had a career-high 129 yards receiving.
• Gooch is the first Cavalier with over a 100 yards receiving since both Tim Smith (151) and Darius Jennings (119) did so against Georgia Tech in 2013.
• With 18 kick return yards Darius Jennings passed Malcolm Pittman (1,543) for No. 2 all-time at UVa in career kick return yards. Jennings now has 1,560 career return yards.
• With three receptions Darius Jennings passed Kevin Ogletree (117) and now ties Dave Sullivan (120) for No. 8 all-time at UVa in career receptions.
• With 75 rushing yards, Kevin Parks passed Tommy Vigorito (2,913) for No. 6 all-time at UVa for career rushing yards. Parks now has 2,976 career rushing yards.
• Connor Wingo-Reeves had a career-long 10-yard reception in the second quarter.

Duke Postgame Notes

· Senior quarterback Anthony Boone improved to 16-1 as a starting quarterback in regular-season games.

o Boone’s overall record of 16-3 (.842 winning percentage) is second best among Duke quarterbacks behind only Worth Lutz’s .846 mark.

· Boone’s 16 wins as a starting quarterback put him in sole possession of second on the Blue Devils’ all-time list. Jerry Barger (1951-54) owns the program record with 17 victories.

· Boone tossed his 28th career touchdown pass in the first quarter, good for sole possession of seventh on the Duke chart.

· Redshirt freshman quarterback Thomas Sirk threw the second touchdown pass of his career on a three-yard jump pass to tight end David Reeves in the fourth quarter. Both of Sirk’s touchdown passes have been to Reeves.

· Senior wide receiver Jamison Crowder hauled in eight passes for 99 yards. He now has 238 receptions, good for the third most in ACC history and the second most by a Duke player. Former Blue Devil Conner Vernon (2009-12/283 catches) holds the all-time league and school mark.

o On the all-time ACC chart, only Sammy Watkins (Clemson/2011-13/240) and Vernon are ahead of Crowder.

· Crowder extended his consecutive games streak with two or more receptions to 35. The mark is the second longest streak among active NCAA receivers, trailing only East Carolina’s Justin Hardy, who owns 41 consecutive games with two or more receptions.

· Crowder finished with 99 receiving yards to become the third 3,000-yard receiver in Duke history with 3,068. He joins Vernon (3,749 yards) and Clarkston Hines (1986-89/3,318) in the 3,000-yard club.

· Redshirt junior tight end David Reeves caught two passes for 11 yards in the contest, including a three-yard jump pass from quarterback Thomas Sirk in the fourth quarter.

· Redshirt senior wide receiver Issac Blakeney hauled in a career-best six passes to bring his season total to 25. In all of 2013, Blakeney caught 19 passes.

· Junior wide receiver Max McCaffrey caught two passes to lift his season total to 25. During the entire 2014 campaign, McCaffrey caught 26 passes.

· Sophomore wide receiver Johnell Barnes hauled in four passes on the day, setting his career best.

· Redshirt sophomore tight end Erich Schneider hauled in his first career touchdown pass in the first quarter.

· Junior running back Shaquille Powell ran for 68 yards on 11 carries after missing last week’s game with an injury.

· Freshman running back Shaun Wilson gained 19 yards on four carries for an average of 4.8 yards a rush.

o Wilson entered the game leading all FBS players in yards per carry with 10.84.

· Redshirt senior running back Josh Snead gained 13 rushing yards to bring his total in the last two games to 115, an average of 57.5 per contest.

· Redshirt junior safety Jeremy Cash recorded 11 tackles. In the last six games, he has tallied seven or more stops in each with five of the six contests reaching double digits.

· Cash forced a fumble for the third time in as many games.

· Senior linebacker David Helton tallied 14 tackles, including 13 assists.

o He entered the game ranked fourth among active FBS players in career assisted tackles with 167.

o Helton also began the contest standing fifth in the ACC in tackles per game this season with 9.17.

· Sophomore safety Deondre Singleton booked five tackles to lift his season total to 45. A year ago through seven games, Singleton had just 18 stops.

· Sophomore Breon Borders recorded a career-high three pass breakups. He had nine career pass breakups entering the Virginia game.

· Senior defensive end Jonathan Jones recorded his first fumble recovery of the season in the first quarter.

· Junior kicker Ross Martin, the Duke career PAT record holder, converted two PATs and has made 89 consecutive PATs, continuing to extend his school record. Will Snyderwine (2009-11) held the previous high for consecutive PATs with 84.

· Martin has scored at least one point in 34 straight games.

· Martin made two field goals in two attempts to remain perfect this season at 10-for-10.

o Martin entered the game as one of seven FBS kickers without a miss in 2014.

o Martin has made at least one field goal in all seven games this season.

· Junior punter Will Monday booted his eighth punt of 50 or more yards in the last four games.

· In the last four games, Monday has also dropped eight punts inside the 20-yard line.

· Senior offensive lineman Laken Tomlinson started his 46th straight game, tied with four others for the longest streak among active NCAA FBS linemen.

TEAM NOTES

· With the win, Duke improved to 6-1 overall. It is the Blue Devils’ best record through seven games since going 7-0 in 1994.

o Since 1944, Duke has started 6-1 or better just four other times (1994/7-0; 1960/7-1; 1953/6-1; 1952/6-1).

· With the victory, Duke has started three straight years with a 5-2 or better record for the first time since 1932-41.

· Duke improved to 2-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. It is the third time in seven seasons under head coach David Cutcliffe that the Blue Devils have been 2-1 or better through the first two league games.

· Cutcliffe earned the 37th win of his Duke career to tie Mike McGee (1971-78/37) for third place on the all-time Duke chart. Wallace Wade (1931-41; 1946-50) owns the school mark with 110 triumphs while Bill Murray (1951-65) is second with 93 wins.

· Duke won its sixth game of the year to ensure bowl eligibility for the third straight season, the longest such streak in program history.

· The Blue Devils have claimed six wins in three of the seven seasons under Cutcliffe. Prior to Cutcliffe taking over in 2008, Duke had not had six or more wins in a year since going 8-4 in 1994.

· Duke has won its last four Homecoming contests, topping Tulane (2011), Memphis (2012), Troy (2013) and Virginia (2014).

· The Blue Devils extended their home winning streak to eight games, tied for the third longest home winning streak in program history. The Duke record is 16 consecutive home wins, done twice.

· Duke has scored a touchdown on the first drive of the game in all four home games.

· Duke has outscored opponents 122-61 in the first half of games through the first seven contests.

· By scoring 20 points, the Blue Devils pushed their season total to 235 points in seven games. The points are the fourth most through seven games in program history.

· Duke was ahead 7-0 at the end of the first quarter. Duke has held the lead at the end of the first quarter in five of seven games played this season.

· The Blue Devils have rushed for 1,017 yards in 2014 home games, an average of 254.25 yards a contest.

· Duke’s offensive line did not allow a sack. In the past five contests, the Blue Devils have yielded just 2.0 sacks.

o The Blue Devils entered the game tied for the fourth fewest sacks allowed per game among FBS schools with 0.67.

· After committing five turnovers against Tulane and Miami, Duke has not turned the ball over in the last two contests.

o Duke has won or tied the turnover battle in six of seven contests this season.

· By limiting Virginia to 13 points, Duke held its 14th consecutive regular season opponent to 30 or fewer points. Only Miami (30; Nov. 9, 2013) has reached 30 points during the stretch.

o The last team to surpass 30 points in the regular season against Duke was Troy with 31 on Sept. 28, 2013.

o The Blue Devils entered the game with the seventh best scoring defense among FBS teams with an average of 15.50 points per game surrendered.

· Duke has allowed fewer than 20 points in six of the seven games this season.

o The Blue Devils are 21-3 (.875 winning percentage) under Cutcliffe when holding opponents to 20 points or fewer.

· Duke has allowed just 106 points this season. The total is good for the fourth fewest allowed through the first seven games since the start of the 1970 campaign.

· The Blue Devils held Virginia to three points in the second half. In the first seven weeks of the season, Duke has allowed only 45 second half points.

· The Duke defense recovered one fumble against Virginia.

· After not recording a turnover in the first two games of the season, Duke has created 13 in the last five games.

o The Blue Devils have averaged 10.20 points per game off of turnovers in the last five contests.
