Virginia Postgame Game Notes

Virginia Team Notes
• Virginia is 2-0 in the ACC for the first time since 2009
• Virginia is now 3-4 all-time vs. Pittsburgh
• The Cavaliers ended a seven-game winless streak in the month of October, recording their first victory in the month since a 28-21 win over Miami on Oct. 27, 2011
• UVa has 19 takeaways this season for 72 points, while the Cavaliers had 21 takeaways for 13 points last season
• Virginia has scored 20 or more points in six consecutive games for the first time since 2003-04 (eight straight games)
• Virginia has scored 20 or more points in six consecutive games in the same season for the first time since 2002
• Pitt surrendered a season-high 225 rushing yards, after entering the game allowing 106.8 yards per game (24th in the nation)

Virginia Offensive Player Notes
• Matt Johns made his second consecutive start and went 9-for-16 for 93 yards with one touchdown and one interception
• Kevin Parks led UVa with a career-high 169 rushing yards, marking his 10th career 100-yard rushing game (t-6th all-time at UVa)
• Parks’ 169 yards marked UVa’s first 150-yard rusher since Cedric Peerman had 173 vs. East Carolina in 2008
• Parks had a career-high 29 rushing attempts and his 48-yard rushing touchdown marked a season long
• Parks is now tied for fifth all-time at UVa with 28 career rushing touchdowns
• Parks moved past Jack McInerney (1989-90) into 13th place on UVa’s all-time scoring list with 186 points
• Parks extended his reception streak to a team-high 17 games
• WR Miles Gooch completed his first career pass, a 28-yarder to Zachary Swanson
• Khalek Shepherd tallied his second receiving touchdown of the season

Virginia Defensive Player Notes
• Max Valles’ 35-yard interception return touchdown marked his first career interception and touchdown
• Valles is the eighth different Cavalier to intercept a pass in 2014, tops in the nation
• Valles’ 35-yard interception return touchdown was the first behind the line of scrimmage since Eli Harold at NC State in 2012
• Quin Blanding had a career-high 15 tackles (six solo)
• Mike Moore had a career-best six tackes and tied a career high with 1.5 sacks
• Donte Wilkins (DT) made his first start of the season

Pitt Postgame Notes

• The University of Pittsburgh football team had a second half rally fall short as the Panthers suffered their third straight loss with a 24-19 setback to the University of Virginia on Saturday night at Scott Stadium. Pitt is now 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the ACC, while UVA improves to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the ACC.

• The Panthers dug themselves a 24-3 halftime deficit and tried to rally in the second half but came up short. Pitt outscored UVA 16-0 in the second half and needed to recover an onsides kick with 1:27 remaining, but the kick went out of bounds and Virginia ran out the clock to hold on for the victory

• Sophomore running back James Conner rushed 21 times for 83 yards. He now has 874 rushing yards this season which surpasses his 12 game rushing total of 799 yards from his freshman campaign.

• Sophomore Tyler Boyd had three catches for 63 yards and also added a 45-yard punt return and eight rushing yards for 108 all-purpose yards. J.P. Holtz led all Pitt receivers with four catches for 40 yards and a touchdown.

• Quarterback Chad Voytik was 16-for-30 for 195 yards with two touchdowns and one interception.

• Defensively, Todd Thomas led Pitt with a career-high tying 12 tackles. K.K. Mosley-Smith had a stellar game on the defensive line, tallying five tackles, two of which were TFLs. Both are new career-highs.

• Virginia was led by running back Kevin Parks who had a career-high 169 yards on 29 carries, including a 48-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

• The Panthers found themselves trailing 24-3 at halftime. Virginia outgained Pitt 234-148 in the half and was led by Parks who had 16 carries for 115 yards and a touchdown in the half. However, the Panthers came out and dominated the third quarter to get back into the game. Pitt outscored the Cavaliers 10-0 in the quarter and outgained Virginia 123-60.

• After forcing Virginia into a three-and-out on the Cavaliers opening drive of the second half, Dontez Ford blocked UVA’s punt which was then cashed in on a 17-yard TD pass from Chad Voytik to Manasseh Garner. Ford’s blocked punt was Pitt’s first since Todd Thomas blocked a punt vs. Louisville for a touchdown on Oct. 13, 2012. The TD pass from Voytik to Garner cut the Virginia lead to 24-10.

• In the third quarter, freshman defensive back Pat Amara recorded his first career interception. It was the Panthers’ eighth INT of the season, matching their total output from the 2013 season.

• Redshirt freshman OL Jaryd Jones-Smith made his first career start this evening. Jones-Smith was the starting left tackle.
