Recap | Final Stats

Head Coach Joanne Boyle

On the win:
“I’m glad to end the weekend 2-0. I thought we started slow but came out strong in the second half. I told the team we can’t start off slow when we head off on the road. Hopefully we learn from that.”

On team’s rebounding:
“Our deficiency in this game was definitely our rebounding. It has to be part of our identity and who we are. Those easy baskets will cost you on the road.”

On playing zone defense:
“We were not planning on playing that much zone. But every one of our post players had two fouls in the first half, so we came out a little more conservative. Since it was working, we stuck with it. The press is something we’ve used in the past.”

On the performance of the freshmen so far:
“They’ve gotten into some foul trouble. They have to understand the college game and how physical they can play. But I think in the minutes they’ve played, they’ve done a great job so far.”

Junior Guard Faith Randolph

On the potential of the offense:
“We have a lot of weapons. We have great post players down low. We have Mikayla at point guard who can shoot as well and we have wing players like Breyana [Mason] and myself. We have really balanced scoring.”

Freshman Guard Mikayla Venson

On adjusting to the college game:
“It’s definitely an adrenaline rush. I have great teammates to help me out and I’m trying to be the best leader I can out there by being vocal. It’s exciting. The college game is a lot faster, and I just have to go out there and make good decisions.”

On her offensive mentality:
“As a point guard, I definitely want to get my teammates involved first. I let the game come to me. I pass first and then look for my shot. We have great guards out there and balanced scoring is key for us. I just want to get wins, that’s all that matters to me.”
