Virginia head coach Joanne Boyle

Opening Statement:
“I’m disappointed. I thought we had a great energy in practice yesterday and were ready to get back from Christmas break and get started in the tournament. I think we got comfortable when we got a 14 point lead and then got discombobulated and let one end of the floor affect the other.”

On Faith Randolph struggles:
“I just think she had a bad shooting night and forced it a little bit. She wasn’t hitting from the outside and was trying to get in the paint but I think she was trying to get in too close and got her shot blocked a couple times.”

On the freshmen’s struggles:
“They kind of hit the wall tonight. They’re just going to have to fight through it. They’re playing a lot of minutes as first years and it’s going to be part of the growing pains. But, they’re going to have to play through it.”

Center Sarah Imovbioh

On the game:
“I don’t know what happened. I felt like we had a good practice yesterday and a good shoot around today and we had confidence going into the game. I just don’t know what happened. We didn’t get stops and we get most of our energy from our stops.”

Her takes from the game:
“We just have to be ready tomorrow. We know that we have the best coaches in basketball. They prepare us for every single game and give us all we need- scouting, video, everything- and make the game much simpler. I just felt like we didn’t deliver today. As players, we didn’t execute the game plan, which was playing defense.”
