Head Coach Joanne Boyle

On the game:
“Obviously we’re disappointed with the outcome. We had a good game plan I the first half and just had a huge letdown and had to fight our way back. Carolina is a very good team and it’s just tough to handle that many points.”

On second half:
“We just dug ourselves too big of a hole coming out in the second half. We ran out of time basically.”

On UVa’s successful press toward the end of the game:
“I wish we would have gone to it sooner or gone to the zone sooner, just to protet Sarah [Imovbioh] from foul trouble. We probably waited a little too long to do that. I really loved how aggressive we were but that needed to be us at the start of the second half. It’s all there and we’re playing with these teams that are top-10 or top-15 and we just have to understand that it’s a 40 minute game. We just had too long of a lapse and against a good team it’s too much to come back from.”

On UVa’s problems tonight:
“We got in early foul trouble and had to pull some of our main people out. We just looked discombobulated offensively and were shooting way too quickly. Way, way too quickly. The other thing I talked to the team about was that when we had chances to make easy layups, we ricocheted them off the backboard and that gives you no chance in transition defense. Both of those things- shooting too fast and missing layups- hurt us tonight.”
“I think we just rushed everything and took quick shots. It was also probably the wrong people taking shots too. We didn’t get anything at the rim for that stretch [at the start of the second half] for about eight minutes. That really hurt our percentage. Like I said before, I think it’s a combination of both ends of the floor.”
“I think I’m stuck in that six or seven minute stretch in the second Half. Obviously we can’t win with Sarah [Imovbioh] on the bench, or Ataira [Franklin] either. We just have to figure it out- whether it’s four or more minutes without Sarah I. We just have to find our identity in there without her.”

Sophomore Guard Faith Randolph

On cutting the deficit late in the second half:
“During that time, they were rattled. We were trying to get deflections on the ball and they didn’t know what to do. But once they started making layups down the floor, it started to deflate our momentum a little bit. We were putting pressure on them, but we needed to play like that earlier.”

On scoring 24 points off the bench:
“Nothing felt different today. My job is to do whatever it takes to help us win and I felt like I did that. A few lapses on offense and defense really hurt us. That’s on me, too. We all have to take ownership of that. We knew we had to be `eleven strong’ today, and we weren’t.”

On looking for a big win on the road:
“We have to bring it on the floor. Once that ball is in the air, we have to bring it. It’s nearing the end of the season. We have to be there mentally and I think we will.”

Junior Center Sarah Imovbioh

On getting into foul trouble:
“It was really difficult. I thought I started to play more timid and not going strong like I usually do because I was scared that they would blow the whistle.”
