Recap | Final Stats

Head coach Joanne Boyle

“It was a tough loss. It was a great battle, back and forth the whole time. NC State just made a big play at the end of the second half. We didn’t recover down at the other end. It was a great game.”

On holding Kody Burke to seven points
“It was team defense tonight. We tried to double on [Markeisha] Gatling some. Make sure that the first person recovered to was Burke. I don’t know that we did anything spectacular or different. We just played or defense and tried to make sure that the second person that didn’t get the touches was Burke.”

On balance in the conference this season
“This is a great conference to play in. On any given night, anybody can beat anybody. Virginia Tech just beat North Carolina. That’s what is great about the conference. It is also what, as you see up here [gesturing to her players], hard about the conference. We have opportunities to play in a great conference. We just have to take advantage of it. Virginia Tech is better than what their record is. It’s a tough conference from top to bottom.”

On moving on
“We have to let this go. I told the team in the locker room, we need to try to finish at .500. We have one home game and one away game. We are 6-8. In my mind, I feel that we are better than 6-8. We need to go out and prove it. We need to put this one behind us. We talk about the things that have caused us to get ourselves in these situations, whether it is rebounding or starting slow in the second half. Things like that that we are capable of controlling. We need to get out of the funk that we are in when it comes down to those things and be the team we can be.”

Redshirt senior guard Lexie Gerson
“We had a great fight. At the end, I was very proud of that team. We need to rebound. We didn’t really do that. Gatling is a great player. A great rebounder. We didn’t really match that. [Sarah Imovbioh] got in foul trouble and no one else really stepped up when she was out. I think that was a huge part of that.”
