Virginia Head Coach Julie Myers

“I can tell you, I am pretty excited! I thought we were going to do it with some comfort. It is kind of nice when your back is against the wall to actually come up. I thought Liza’s last draw was huge, but she had so many huge moments in the game. Her teammates really did a nice job supporting one another. We definitely make it harder than it needs to be, but the nice thing is we are there to bail each other out.”

On what she said in the timeout in the final two minutes
Composure. Take a deep breath. Composure. We’ve got possession of the ball. Everybody identified who was wide open and then we went with a totally different option when we went back to Liz. I didn’t remember hearing that Liz was the free option, but you know what. We were able to spread the field. Everybody made the catches and made the plays and kept possession at the end of the game, so that was really nice to see.”

On Penn State’s goalkeeper Emi Smith
“I think she played great. I think we had a tendency of making her look better than she maybe she is, but I give her credit. She kept her stick in the right spots. It is easy to miss the easy saves. She certainly made the easy saves. I think our shooting was better in that second half, but it clearly needs to get much better.”

On building confidence going into next week’s North Carolina game
“It gives us a huge, deep breath. And a happy, relaxed day where we are proud of what we have done. Tomorrow we will regroup and get back at it, getting ready for Carolina starting Monday. I think we may have a couple of obstacles with this weather, but we are going to have to block that out as noise and we are going to pay no attention to it. Now it is just us focusing on Carolina.”

Senior Liza Blue

On the win
“Winning has never felt so good.”

On getting good shots in the second half
“That’s what we practiced this week, just moving the ball quickly and find the open girl. We had a lot of shots, we just didn’t finish them in the first half. I think in the second half, we smoothed out the kinks.”
