Virginia Team Notes
• UVa is now 3-2 all-time versus BYU and 1-1 in games played at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
• UVa is now 4-13 all-time in games played west of the Mississippi River.
• Virginia gained 519 total yards, it’s most for the season.
• Virginia out gained an opponent for the third time this season.
• UVa ran 102 total plays, a program record. Previous record was 98 against South Carolina in 1968.
• With 192 rushing yards, Virginia becomes the first team to rush for over 100 yards all season against BYU.
• Virginia scored its first game-opening touchdown since Oct. 19, 2013 versus Duke.
• Virginia’s defense forced a three-and-out on the opening drive of each half for the first time this season.
• UVa made four field goals in a game for the first time since the Maryland game in 2013 (Oct. 12).
• BYU returned a kickoff 99 yards for a touchdown. It was the first time an opponent returned a kick for touchdown since Duke Johnson did so for Miami in 2012.
Virginia Player Notes
• Greyson Lambert’s 37-yard rush in the first quarter was a career high.
• Lambert threw for a career-high 188 yards and rushed for a career-high 49 yards.
• Miles Gooch finished the game with a career-high six receptions.
• Canaan Severin had a career-high 58 receiving yards.
• Kyle Dockins recorded his first career touchdown with 1:48 left in the game on an 11-yard pass from Matt Johns.
• With 83 kick return yards, Darius Jennings passed Jerrod Washington for No. 4 all-time at Virginia in career yardage. Jennings now has 1,416 career yards.
• Ian Frye connected on a career-high four field goals (23, 41, 22, 46).
BYU Postgame Notes
BYU defeated Virginia 41-33 at LaVell Edwards Stadium. The Cougars improve to 4-0 on the season and 542-393-26 all time. BYU is 4-0 for the first time since 2008 and the eighth time in school history.
The Cougars are 2-3 all-time against Virginia and 1-1 at home.
BYU is 73-4 under Bronco Mendenhall when leading after three quarters, with 13 consecutive wins.
The Cougars scored 14 points in the third quarter to go ahead 27-16. So far this season, they are outscoring their opponents 45-7 in four games in the third.
BYU has 17 wins against Power 5 schools since 2003, which ranks second among non-Power 5 schools behind fellow independent Navy.
The BYU offense is scoring on 94.7 percent (18 of 19) of its blue zone trips this year with 13 total TDs, including 16 of 16 (11 TDs) in the last three games.
BYU got its first kick return touchdown since 2011 when Cody Hoffman ran one back against Central Florida in a 24-17 win at LaVell Edwards Stadium.
The Cougars scored 0.683 points per play while holding Virginia to 0.323 points per play in the contest.
Junior defensive lineman Logan Taele and freshman linebacker Sione Takitaki carried the team and special teams flags, respectively. Former linebacker Leon White (1981-85) carried the alumni flag.
Official attendance for the game was 59,023.
Taysom Hill
Junior quarterback Taysom scored three touchdowns (two pass, one rush) while throwing for 187 yards and rushing for 72 yards with a passer efficiency rating of 153.5, his second best of the season.
Jordan Leslie
Senior wide receiver Jordan Leslie caught his first touchdown as a Cougar. He finished the game with a team-high four receptions and 41 yards.
Devon Blackmon
Junior receiver Devon Blackmon caught two passes, including a 56-yard catch from Taysom Hill, the longest pass play for BYU this season. He also added a 25-yard punt return.
Mitchell Juergens
Sophomore receiver Mitchell Juergens scored his first touchdown at BYU on a 50-yard reception in the fourth quarter.
Adam Hine
Junior running back/kickoff returner Adam Hine scored a 99-yard touchdown on a kickoff return in the fourth quarter, his first score as a return man.
Robertson Daniel
Senior defensive back Robertson Daniel recorded his first interception of the season. He added two pass breakups and four tackles.
Sae Tautu
Sophomore linebacker Sae Tautu notched a career-high five tackles, including 0.5 tackles for loss.
Alani Fua
Senior linebacker Alani Fua set a new career high with eight solo tackles and season high with nine total tackles.
Jherremya Leuta-Douyere
Junior linebacker Jherremya Leuta-Douyere recorded seven total tackles, including five solo-both personal bests.
Manoa Pikula
Junior linebacker Manoa Pikula tied his career high with five total tackles.
Scott Arellano
Senior punter Scott Arellano tied his career high with four punts inside the 20-yard line. He notched five total punts for 275 yards with a long of 65, averaging 55 yards per punt, also a career high. It’s the first time in his career that Arellano has had three 60+ yard punts. The only time he had three over 50 yards was this year at Texas.
Craig Bills
Senior safety Craig Bills notched a season- and team-high 10 tackles, while adding one pass breakup and 0.5 tackles for loss.
