Virginia Team Notes
• First-Time Starters: Matt Johns (QB)
• Collegiate debuts: Brendan Marshall (QB), Ryan Santoro (WR)

• UVa had a season-high 520 yards of total offense, its most since 580 yards vs. VMI in 2013
• Virginia had a season-high 254 rushing yards, its most since rushing for 357 vs. VMI in 2013
• Virginia has registered 500 or more yards in total offense in back-to-back games for the first time since 2004 (Temple, 504, North Carolina 549 & Akron, 522)
• After Kent State held the ball for 19:42 in the first half, the UVa defense only yielded 9:50 of possession time to the Golden Flashes in the second half

• Matt Johns made his first career start and went 17-of-28 for 227 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions
• Johns added a career-best 65 yards rushing, including a career-long 42-yard run and a rushing touchdown
• Johns became the 18th UVa quarterback to throw for over 150 yards in his first career start for the Cavaliers.
• Johns’ 227 passing yards ranks seventh all-time among UVa quarterbacks making their first career start.
• Kevin Parks added 61 yards on 12 carries and his 27th career rushing touchdown
• Parks moved past Frank Quayle (1966-68, 2,695 yards) into seventh on UVa’s all-time rushing list with 2,732 yards
• Parks is tied with Johnny Papit (1947-50) for sixth on UVa’s all-time rushing touchdown list with 27
• Parks moved past Shawn Moore (1987-90) into 14th place on UVa’s all-time scoring list with 180 points
• Parks (104 all-purpose yards) moved past Bill Dudley into 10th place on UVa’s career all-purpose yards list with 3,428
• Parks added an 11-yard touchdown reception for his 30th career touchdown
• Parks extended his reception streak to a team-high 16 games
• Taquan Mizzell rushed for a career-best 61 yards on nine carries with a touchdown
• Mizzell extended his reception streak to 14 games
• Khalek Shepherd tallied his first receiving touchdown of the season, a 25-yarder from Johns in the second quarter
• Canaan Severin extended his reception streak to five games
• Miles Gooch extended his reception streak to three games

Virginia Defensive Player Notes
• Maurice Canady’s 69-yard interception return for touchdown was the first of his career and first for Virginia since Chase Minnifield’s 54-yarder vs. Duke in 2011
• The 69-yard interception return for touchdown is the fourth-longest scoring INT return in school history
• Brandon Phelps had his first career interception
• CB Demetrious Nicholson tallied his fourth career interception in his season debut after missing the past 11 games due to injury dating back to last season
• Kiwontie Moore had his first career sack and first career forced fumble
• Daquan Romero had his third career fumble recovery and third career forced fumble
• DreQuan Hoskey had his first career fumble recovery
• Quin Blanding led Virginia with a career-high 13 tackles
Kent State Postgame Notes
• Sophomore James Brooks caught his first career touchdown, a 45-yarder from Colin Reardon. It was Kent State’s longest offensive play of the season. Brooks had a career-high 76 receiving yards.
• True freshman Nathan Puthoff got his first career start at right guard. Puthoff became the fourth offensive lineman to get his first career start this season.
• Freshman linebacker Marques Moore got his first career start. Moore became the 14th different Kent State player to get his first career start this season. He also had his first career fumble recovery in the second half.
• Redshirt freshman defensive lineman Jontey Byrd made his first career interception.
• Senior cornerback Malcolm Pannell made his fourth career interception and first of the season.
• Junior Anthony Melchiori connected on his first and second field goals of the season on two attempts, including a 43-yarder.
• Three of Melchiori’s punts went for over 50 yards for the second straight game.
• Sophomore Nate Holley was Kent State’s leading tackler for the sixth straight game with 15 tackles and remains among the nation’s leaders.
• Kent State’s 318 total yards were a season-high, as were its 72 net rushing yards and its 18 first downs.
• The Flashes have forced at three or more turnovers in three of four games this season.
• Kent State had its highest time of possession of a half this season, holding the ball for 19:42 in the first two quarters.
• The Flashes lost a fumble for the first time in five games during the third quarter.
