No. 4 Virginia Wins 10 Races at ACC/Big Ten Challenge

LAKE MONTICELLO, Va.–The No. 4 Virginia rowing team won 10 races Saturday (April 4) at the ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Lake Monticello.
“We are going to use this regatta as a launching point for the rest of the season,” UVa assistant coach Brett Gorman said. “We had some great results today that showed our team depth and our top boats had some good racing today but need to move on forward. Thanks to all four teams who came and participated.”
In the morning session, the Cavaliers defeated top-ranked Ohio State in the Third Varsity Eight (time of 6:33.6) and the Second Varsity Four (7:18.1), but the Buckeyes prevailed in the Varsity Eight (6:06.7-6:10.1), Second Varsity Eight (6:25.9-6:31.5) and Varsity Four (7:03.2-7:03.8).
In the afternoon session, Virginia won races over Michigan and Navy in the 2V8 (6:28.7), V4 (7:22.4), 2V4 (7:27.0) and 3V4 (7:29.4). Michigan edged UVa’s Varsity Eight, 6.22.36-6:22.49.
In both sessions, Cavalier crews in the Third Varsity Four and Fourth Varsity Eight defeated boats from both Michigan and Ohio State.
Next up, the Cavaliers travel to Princeton, N.J., April 11 when they compete against Cornell, Harvard and Princeton.
