Virginia women’s basketball team fell to 13-5, 3-2 ACC
No. 4 Louisville improved to 16-1, 45-0 ACC), the only team in the ACC still without a conference loss.
Junior guard Faith Randolph scored a game-high 24 points, going 11-of-22 from the field, with five rebounds and three assists.
Randolph scored her 20th point with 12:21 left in the game. This was her eighth 20-point game of the season and her third-straight 20-point game.
Randolph made a career-high 11 field goals.
Senior center Sarah Imovbioh scored 11 points with 15 rebounds (3 offensive, 12 defensive), with two blocks and a steal. Imovbioh was 5-of-10 shooting.
Imovbioh had her ninth double-double of the season.
It was the fourth time this season Imovbioh had 15 or more rebounds in a game
Sophomore guard Breyana Mason scored 11 points with two rebounds and an assist.
Virginia scored its first eight points in the paint while the Cardinals scored 10 of their first 11 down low. In the first half, the two teams combined to score 44 of the 59 points in the paint.
Louisville finished the game scoring 52 points in the paint. Virginia had 24.
Louisville held a 39-35 edge in rebounding. The Cardinal had five turnovers. Virginia had 10.
Virginia pulled to within two, 27-25, on a 6-0 run consisting of a Breyana Mason jumper sandwiched between a pair of Faith Randolph buckets.
Both teams were 0-of-5 from three-point range in the first half. Randolph hit the only three-pointer of the game 35 seconds into the second half. Virginia was 1-of-11 from three-point range, Louisville was 0-of-9.
The 9.1 percent three-point shooting was Virginia’s lowest of the season. The previous low was a 2-of-14 performance against Radford (.143)
Louisville’s 0-for-9 from three was the first time Virginia held an opponent to zero makes from beyond the arc since Norfolk State went 0-of-9 in 2012-13
The Cavaliers started the second half going 6-of-9 from the field.
The Virginia bench scored three points. Louisville’s bench 12.
This was the second time in the last three games that Virginia has faced a ranked opponent on the road. The Cavaliers fell 70-58 at No. 21 Syracuse last Sunday (Jan. 11).
Virginia finishes off its current two-game road trip by playing at Miami on Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 7 p.m.
Virginia will be back at John Paul Jones Arena on Sunday, Jan. 25, hosting Georgia Tech at 2 p.m.
