Opoku Named NSCAA Second-Team All-American

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Virginia’s Edward Opoku (So., Rye, N.Y.) has been named a Second-Team All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, as announced Friday by the NSCAA. It marks his first career All-America honor.
Opoku is the 50th Cavalier to earn All-America recognition from the NSCAA.
Opoku finished second on the team with six goals in 2016, including five game-winning scores. He also added a pair of assists. Opoku ranks second in the ACC in game-winning goals and 13th overall in goals. The speedy forward played and started in 18 matches while taking a team-high 42 shots.
Opoku claimed All-ACC laurels for the second straight season, taking second-team honors after earning third-team laurels in 2015.
Virginia finished 11-4-5 this season, reaching the NCAA tournament for the 36th straight season and advancing to the third round as the No. 12 seed.
