Head Coach Joanne Boyle
Opening Statement:
“It is good to be back after having a couple of days off and happy to come out with a win. Defensively, we have been really solid this year. I don’t think we shot the ball particularly well and didn’t have good balance until the fourth quarter, but the girls stayed with it and grinded it out. We had a good substitution pattern and we got into rhythm in the fourth quarter.”

On using a lot of substitutions:
“Knowing we have back-to-back games we wanted to limit starters minutes and trying to keep more balance, while giving players who don’t get as many minutes more reps. I like the balance we had tonight, it was a good rhythm for everybody.”

On takeaways from game like tonight:
“I think we only scored six points in the second quarter and they had two, so it seems like we set women’s basketball back a little. They sat in the zone all night and we just didn’t finish and weren’t making shots. I don’t think we quit on the defensive end, we were still engaged on that end of the floor. As I told the girls, the shots will come. We have to start moving the ball better. We start pressing a little bit and turn them over to get some easy baskets. We just have to finish better around the rim and we have to take care of the ball. Especially when a team is not pressing you, I felt like we were turning the ball over and giving them some easy baskets. Those are the two things we need to clean up.”

On the rebounding differential:
“One of the things we have talked about all year is rebounding being part of our identity. We emphasize it in practice. UMBC came out and played a zone, and they played it for forty minutes. You have to make someone pay for sitting in a zone all night. I thought the girls did a good job of that in two of the four quarters.”

Junior forward Lauren Moses
On rebounding:
“We recognized that we had a size advantage. I also thought that our guards did a good job of crashing the boards tonight. J’Kyra [Brown] getting in there, coming off the wing, getting in the paint, getting rebounds really helped us a lot. It also helped our transition. She is able to get the rebound and then just push. It makes everyone else run in transition. It helped us on the offensive end in the second half, not having to set up against their zone every time down the court.
