Head Coach Joanne Boyle
On problems in first half:
“Rebounding has been a problem, and just not recognizing. We really worked hard to be more vocal on offense. We have to call out plays and be deliberate on things. It’s great in the second half when we are coming towards the bench so I can make the calls, but we have to take ownership out there and be deliberate in what we are doing. We just got rattled, weren’t making calls and taking bad shots. The offense as just stagnant, so that really hurt us along with not rebounding the ball.”

On what was said at halftime:
“We just challenged them. We knew they were going to push us around and you aren’t going to get any calls in here. It just felt like we were being really tentative and not in an attack mode at all. We were letting them do what they wanted to do. Then we finally came out in the third quarter and ran our offense and got the shots we wanted, but we came in and took some ill-will shots at the end and they were able to push the lead back up.”

On J’Kyra Brown’s 11 points in first start:
“She needs to shoot the ball more and she just hesitated in the first half. She needs to come in and be a scorer for us because it puts too much on Mikayla (Venson) and Breyana (Mason) at times, so to have her be able to take pressure off of those two is helpful.”

On Sunday’s matchup with Virginia Tech:
“They are a hard-nosed team, very good defensively. They are holding teams into the 50’s and 60’s. They do a great job defensively and are a good rebounding team. They execute and run a lot of plays so it is about focusing on us and our mentality and how we are going to fight for things. I think the offense making better calls in the first half will help us, then just everybody rebounding.”
