Miami, Fla. – The Virginia women’s track and field program concluded its opening weekend with the Hurricane Twilight on Saturday (March 25) at Cobb Stadium in Miami, Fla. During the day’s events, senior Christine Bohan (Avon Lake, Ohio) finished with the top throw in the shot put, securing a mark of 16.05 meters to stand as the 12th best throw in the nation and sixth-best throw in the region.

Not finished, Bohan notched a personal record in the discus, reaching 49.52 meters. She finished the event with the 18th best throw in the East Region.

“The opening meet of the outdoor season is really geared to long-term preparation as well as the adjustment of events that are outdoor specific,” said UVA director of track and field/cross country Bryan Fetzer. “We had some young ladies really start off on a great note.

“We are excited to finally be finished traveling with the entire team until ACC’s (Atlantic Coast Conference Championships) and have the opportunity to compete in front of our amazing family and friends during the month of April in Charlottesville.”

The Cavaliers saw freshman, Alexis Woodley (Chesapeake, Va.), post her first 100-meter hurdle event on the UVA freshman all-times list. With a time of 13.88, she ranks third on the school’s first-year records’ list.

In the javelin throw, junior Caitlin Mautz (Doylestown, Pa.) recorded a mark of 47.04 meters to place third in the event. Her throw ranks as the 25th best in the national and 10th best in the region.

Sophomore Ciara Leonard, (Elkins Park, Pa.) placed fourth in the 100-meter hurdles. She finished with a time of 13.71 for the 22nd best performance in the East Region.

Redshirted sophomore Mia Barron (Minnetonka, Minn.) notched the 12th best regional performance in the women’s long jump. She reached a mark of 5.98 meters.

Junior Katie Freix (Chantilly, Va.) finished the field events for UVA clearing 3.75 meters during the pole vault to earn second at the meet.

UVA rounded out the running events with junior Micah Brickhill (Buckingham, Va.) leading the Cavaliers in the 800-meter run. She finished with a time of 2:11.20 for fifth overall at the meet and 20th in the region.

Junior Holly Sullivan (Chester Springs, Pa.) earned a personal best time of 1:00.51 in the 400-meter hurdles to rank her 21st in the region.

The Cavaliers will compete in the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas for their next meet. The three-day event will begin on March 30.
