Indiana Postgame Notes
– Head coach Tom Allen recorded his first career win at Indiana, becoming just the third coach in program history to notch their first career victory at IU on the road. Terry Hoeppner won at Central Michigan (20-13) on Sept. 2, 2005, while Clyde Smith won at Wisconsin (35-7) on Sept. 25, 1948.
– With the victory, Indiana improves to 9-1 in the team’s last 10 non-conference contests, including the last four on the road with victories over Virginia, FIU, Wake Forest and Missouri.
– The victory marked the second-straight road win for the Hoosiers over an ACC opponent. IU defeated No. 18 Missouri, 31-27, on Sept. 20, 2014.
– The 55 rushing yards allowed by the IU defense are the fewest since limiting Purdue to 42 yards rushing on Nov. 26, 2016.
– The three points allowed in the first half for the Hoosiers were the fewest since allowing three against Michigan on Nov. 19, 2016.
– With his 51-yard field goal in the second quarter, redshirt senior Griffin Oakes passed Mitch Ewald (2010-13) with 54 made field goals to become the program’s all-time leader. The make was his third of over 50 yards in his career. The 51-yarder was the second-longest of his career.
– Oakes also hit a 48-yarder in the third quarter to register his 17th career multi-FG game. The 48-yard FG is tied for his fifth-longest make in his career.
– Junior J-Shun Harris’ 44-yard punt return for a touchdown was the first of his career and was a career-long return. Harris totaled 109 punt return yards on the game, the most for any IU player since 1991.
– The punt return for a TD was the first for the Hoosiers since Mitchell Paige returned one 51 yards for a score against Michigan on Nov. 14, 2015.
– With his 54 kickoff return yards, sophomore Devonte Williams moved in to ninth placed on Indiana’s all-time list with a career total of 1,170 yards.
– Sophomore Haydon Whitehead finished the game with seven punts for an average of 43.4 yards, with four inside the 20. Whitehead had three inside the 10-yard line on Saturday, giving him four on the season.
– Freshman Peyton Ramsey completed 16-of-20 (.800) passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing 12 times for 42 yards. Ramsey set career-highs in completions, attempts, passing touchdowns, rush attempts and rush yards.
– Ramsey’s completion percentage is the second-best in single-game history at Indiana. Matt LoVecchio completed 15-of-17 passes (.882) at Illinois on Nov. 6, 2004.
– Ramsey’s first career touchdown pass to redshirt junior Simmie Cobbs for 29 yards was a career-long completion. Ramsey’s 26-yards touchdown rush in the second quarter was a career-long and was also his first career rushing score.
– Freshman Morgan Ellison had 12 rushes for 47 yards, setting career-highs in both categories. Ellison also set a career best with a long rush of nine yards.
– Redshirt junior Simmie Cobbs had a team-high five receptions for 62 yards and a touchdown. The score was his second TD reception of the season and sixth of his career.
– Junior Donovan Hale’s 32-yard TD reception was the second of the season and the second of his career. Hale finished the game with two catches for 49 yards.
– Junior Jonathan Crawford finished the game with a career-high 11 tackles and one pass breakup. The PBU was the first this season for Crawford and the ninth of his career.
– Chris Covington finished the game with a career-high eight tackles, including one TFL. The TFL was the first of the season and the fourth of his career for the senior.
– Tegray Scales recorded eight tackles, 0.5 sacks and 1.5 TFL in the victory for the Hoosiers. The senior now has 12.5 sacks for his career and 35.0 TFL, which tie him for sixth place on Indiana’s all-time career TFL list.
– A’Shon Riggins had a career-high seven tackles to go with two PBU’s for the Hoosiers. The two pass breakups were the first of the season for the sophomore and give him 11 for his career.
– Redshirt freshman Jerome Johnson finished with a career-high five tackles, along with his first career TFL.
– Redshirt senior Jayme Thompson had a career-high two tackles in the victory for IU.
– Rashard Fant totaled two tackles, a TFL and one pass breakup on the day. The TFL is the first this season and gives the redshirt senior 7.5 for his career. Fant’s PBU was his second this season and pushes his career total to 47.
– Jacob Robinson record 0.5 sacks on the day, giving him 1.5 for his career. The junior finished the game with three tackles.
– Freshman LeShaun Minor had two tackles and recorded his first career PBU for the Hoosiers.
– Redshirt junior Kiante Walton had one tackles and forced his first career fumble.
– Senior Robert McCray III made his first career start for the Hoosiers.
– Two freshmen – Whop Philyor and Ty Fryfogle – each made their first career appearances for the Hoosiers.
– Junior Jonathan Crawford (1st time in 2017), senior Greg Gooch (2nd time), redshirt senior Richard Lagow (2nd time), junior Mike Majette (1st time), redshirt junior Wes Martin (2nd time) and senior Tegray Scales (2nd time) served as team captains against Virginia.
– Indiana won the coin toss for the second time this season and deferred until the second half for the second time this season.
