Jefferson Leads Cavaliers at Tiger Paw Invitational

CLEMSON, S.C.- The Virginia women’s track and field team completed the opening day of the Tiger Paw Invitational, hosted by Clemson, at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex on Friday (Feb. 9), in addition to concluding competition at the David Hemery Invitational, hosted by Boston, at the Track and Tennis Complex in Boston, Mass.
Sophomore Anna Jefferson (Warren, Mich.) led the Cavaliers in the 400m dash, recording a time of 54.87 and placing 11th in the event. Her performance ranked sixth on UVA’s all-time best list.
In the field events, senior Bridget Guy (Greensburg, Pa.) finished sixth in the pole vault after clearing a height of 4.10m (13’5.25″), while senior Katie Freix (Chantilly, Va.) finished 12th in the event, recording a height of 3.80m (12’5.5″). Freshman Brittany Jones (Bloomfield, Conn.) captured a mark of 13.98m (45’10.5″) in the shot put, placing 11th in the event. Redshirt junior Mia Barron (Minnetonka, Minn.) led the Cavaliers in the long jump finishing 17th with a mark of 5.88m (19’3.5″), while junior Kelly McKee (Lenexa, Kan.) finished 19th in the event with a jump of 5.84m (19’2″).
In the 60m hurdles, sophomore Alexis Woodley (Chesapeake, Va.) placed 20th overall with a time of 8.44. Junior Ciara Leonard (Elkins Park, Pa.) placed 23rd with a time of 8.51. The pair advanced to the semifinals after Leonard finished ninth in the preliminary race with a time of 8.41, a season best, and Woodley finished 13th with a time of 8.43.
Rounding out the day, Leonard placed 34th in the 60m dash, recording career-best time of 7.86, while senior Kiana Hairston (Manassas, Va.) placed 35th, with a season-best performance of 7.90. Junior Alana Herran (Orange, N.J.) finished 26th in the 60m hurdles, capturing a time of 8.88 and 39th in the 400m dash with a time of 57.09.
At the David Hemery Valentine’s Invitational, senior Holly Sullivan (Chester Springs, Pa.) competed in two events finishing eighth in the long jump with a mark of 5.53m (18’1.75″) and 28th in the 800m with a time of 2:12.66.
Freshman Gabrielle Hayes (Woodbridge, Va.) placed fifth in the high jump reaching a mark of 1.65m (5’5″) in addition to placing 43rd in the shot put with a mark of 7.97m (26’1.75″).
In the 800m, freshman Madelin Rennyson (Lynchburg, Va.) finished with a personal-best time of 2:11.75, placing 24th overall.
Junior Carly Feyerabend (Mechanicsville, Va.) placed 12th in the high jump, recording a mark of 1.60m (5’3″).
Freshman Kiera Bothwell (Springfield, Va.) paced the mile, finishing 80th with a time of 5:04.07, while freshman Margot Ehrenthal (Concord, Mass.) finished 120th with a time of 5:11.18. Both student-athletes recorded career-best performances in the event.
The Cavaliers will conclude competition at the Tiger Paw Invitational tomorrow. Events will begin at 11 a.m.
