RICHMOND, Va. – VCU (17-8) scored the game’s first seven runs and never looked back in an 11-3 victory over Virginia (14-11). The win for the Rams was their 13th in-a-row, the second-longest active streak in the nation.

VCU took advantage of three first-inning walks and a hit batsman issued by Virginia starting pitcher Griff McGarry (Portola Valley, Calif.) in the bottom of the first inning. A two-out, two RBI single by Steven Carpenter capped the initial three-run rally. The Rams took advantage of a two-out Virginia fielding error in the second inning and plated four runs, three of them unearned.

The Rams scored six of their first eight runs with two outs.

At the plate for the Cavaliers, junior Andy Weber (Aurora, Ohio) went 2-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored. Senior Charlie Cody (Chesapeake, Va.) drove in two of the Cavaliers three runs with a two-out single to left field in the top of the fourth inning. He recorded his second multi-hit game in as many days and finished the night 2-for-3.

Relievers Mack Meyer (San Francisco, Calif.) and Riley Wilson (Midlothian, Va.) combined for 3.1 innings of one-run baseball. Wilson struck out three batters in his 1.1 inning of work, his first appearance since March 4.

Virginia will resume Atlantic Coast Conference play on Friday (March 30) with the opening game of a three-game series at Pittsburgh.

Additional Notes
– Under head coach Brian O’Connor, the Cavaliers are 18-3 against VCU. Two of the three Ram victories have come at the Diamond.
– It marked the second time this season Weber recorded two doubles in a game and the fourth time a UVA player has compiled two doubles in the same game.
