CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.- The Virginia men’s swimming and diving team had 12 swimmers qualify for the NCAA Championships March 27-30 at the Lee & Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin, Texas, as announced by the NCAA office on Wednesday (March 13).
The Cavaliers will be represented by redshirt senior Brendan Casey (Santa Monica, Calif.), seniors Zach Fong (Moorestown, N.J.), Bryce Keblish (Fairfield, Conn.) and Sam Magnan (Bethlehem, Pa.), juniors Ryan Baker (Arlington, Va.), Joe Clark (Worcester Park, Great Britain), and Ted Schubert (Ashland, Va.), sophomores Keefer Barnum (Louisville, Ky.), Robby Giller (Wilton, Conn.), Matthew Otto (Newark, Del.) and Cooper Wozencraft (Houston, Texas), and freshman Casey Storch (Great Falls, Va.).
Virginia tied for the fourth largest roster for the NCAA Championships. The 12 qualified individual swimmers are the most for the Cavaliers, not including alternates, since 2004.
Fong will lead the team as a four-time NCAA qualifier. He earned All-America honors at the 2018 championships, finishing 12th in the 200-yard butterfly.
Clark, Keblish and Schubert will advance for their third time. Clark enters as a three-time All-American, while Schubert qualified as an All-American twice last season.
Six Cavaliers will make their second appearance at the national meet as Casey leads the group after capturing two ACC titles at the 2019 conference championships. Baker, Barnum, Giller, Magnan and Otto will also advance for the second time in their careers. Baker is a two-time All-American, while Barnum and Giller hold one national honor.
Wozencraft and Storch will make their first NCAA appearance.
The Cavaliers will compete in four relays, advancing in the 800-yard freestyle, 400-yard medley relay, 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay.
Additionally, the Virginia divers will look to add to the NCAA roster as the team concludes competition at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships today. Junior Bryce Shelton (Vienna, Va.) has qualified on the 1m and 3m board. Shelton and freshman Walker Creedon (Cary, N.C.) will look to advance on the platform this afternoon.
