Raleigh Relays | Fred Hardy Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  The Virginia women’s track and field team closed its time at the Raleigh Relays at the Paul Derr Track & Field Facility in Raleigh, N.C., and concluded the opening day of competition at the Fred Hardy Invitational at the Robins Stadium in Richmond, Va., on Friday (March 29).

Sophomore Kiera Bothwell (Springfield, Va.) captured the 10th-best 3000m steeplechase time in UVA history to lead the Cavaliers during the day’s events. She recorded a time of 10:48.28 to finish 24th in the 50-person field.
 
Running for the first time collegiately in the 10000m, sophomore Hannah Moran (Salem, Va.) captured a time of 36:08.99 to finish 13th in the event.

“Overall, today went well for the team,” assistant track and field coach Megan LaVoie said. “We had solid performances by a few of the athletes. In the coming weeks, we look forward to improving and working towards our goals.” 
 
Fred Hardy Invitational
 
At the Fred Hardy Invitational, redshirt senior Mia Barron (Minnetonka, Minn.) recorded a season-best jump of 12.36m (40’6.75″) to finish first in the triple jump. Junior Tedi DeMaria (Feura Bush, N.Y.) also captured a first-place finish in a field event, topping the pole vault with a height of 3.80m (12’5.5″).
 
On the track, Madelin Rennyson (Lynchburg, Va.) finished third in the invitational heat for the 800m. She recorded a time of 2:09.77, dropping four seconds for a personal-best time in the event. Her time ranks third on UVA’s all-time freshman records list as Rennyson competes in her first outdoor season with the Cavaliers. 
 
Freshman Amelia Kokernak (Niskayuna, N.Y.) placed fourth in the 1500m, finishing with a time of 4:37.89. 
 
Virginia will return to action tomorrow at the Fred Hardy Invitational. Events will begin at 9 a.m.
