CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 3 Florida State (35-3, 8-1 ACC) exploded for 14 hits to complete the series sweep with a 16-3 victory over Virginia (16-17, 5-7 ACC) on Sunday (March 31).

Freshman Clare Zureich (Cary, N.C.) made the start and took the loss for the Cavaliers. The southpaw allowed four runs but was victimized by a pop-up lost in the sun which extended the first inning.

Offensively, Virginia was stymied until the fourth inning when senior Olivia Gott (Weston, Fla.) launched a two-run home run to center.

KEY INNING
A one-out pop-up in the top of the first was lost in the sun and Florida State capitalized on the extra out to score three runs. Dani Morgan had the big hit, driving a bases-clearing double to right center to give the Seminoles the early lead.

TOUCHING HOME
• Morgan’s bases loaded double got FSU out to a 3-0 lead in the first.
• FSU added five more runs in the second, as the wind played havoc with fly balls. Elizabeth Mason provided a ground-rule double to score a pair for the Seminoles.
• A pair of Virginia errors in the third led to a two-run home run from Carsyn Gordon.
• Two Florida State home runs in the fourth extended the advantage to 15.
• Gott lifted her two-run shot to center off FSU reliever Kara Bilodeau in the bottom of the fourth.
• Abigail Barber (Providence Forge, Va.) had an infield single and scored on an error for the final margin of 16-3.

ON THE LINES
• Senior Erika Osherow (Darien, Conn.) singled in the first inning, extending her hitting streak to four games.
• Gott’s homer was her second in as many days against the Seminoles.
• Freshman Donna Friedman (Orange, Calif.) doubled in her only at-bat of the game.
• Meghan King (18-1) earned the win for Florida State.
