Virginia Hosts Seton Hall in Three-game Weekend Series

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Midway through its 13-game home stand, Virginia (4-4) will host Seton Hall (0-5) for a three-game, weekend series at Disharoon Park. The two teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday (March 2) beginning at noon followed by the series finale on Sunday at 1 p.m. All three games are scheduled to air live on ACC Network Extra.

SATURDAY PARKING: Due to the men’s basketball game on Saturday at 2 p.m., parking for baseball will be available only in the Emmett/Ivy Garage. JPG Surface/Garage along with U-Hall surface lots will be reserved for the men’s basketball.

Leading Off
• Seton Hall will be Virginia’s final non-conference opponent on the weekend before opening up ACC play against Duke on March 8-10.
• Virginia is 18-5 at home and 36-6 overall against non-conference opponents over the past two seasons.
• The Cavaliers have won their last four weekend series against non-conference opponents dating back to 2016.
• Under head coach Brian O’Connor, Virginia is 5-1 against Seton Hall.
• Seton Hall is the second Big East opponent in 2019. After sweeping Villanova last weekend, O’Connor is 11-2 against current members of the Big East (4-1 vs. St. John’s; 4-1 vs. Georgetown, 3-0; Villanova 3-0).
Against the Pirates
• In a game originally scheduled to be played in Charlottesville, inclement weather forced the last meeting against Seton Hall in 2015 to be played in Myrtle Beach, S.C., a 4-1 Cavalier victory.
• All but one of the 55 previous meeting against Seton Hall have been played in Charlottesville.
• The last time the Pirates played three games at Disharoon Park was 2004, a three-game sweep by the Cavaliers in O’Connor’s first year at the helm. The three wins in 2004 were a part of a 17-2 start by the Cavaliers.
Double Vision
• Freshman Zack Gelof collected his fifth double of the year in Tuesday’s game against William & Mary, tied for the most in the ACC and tied for the ninth-most in the country. He also leads the team in RBI with 10, driving in a run in each of the last four games.
• Sophomore Brendan Rivoli has put together three-straight multi-hit performances, bumping his season average up to .375, second-highest on the club and 13th highest in the ACC. His four doubles are also tied for the second most in the league.
Season Streaks
• The left side of the infield, Gelof and Tanner Morris have reached base safely in all eight games. Morris leads the team in hitting (.387), the ninth highest in the league.
• Nate Eikhoff, is in the midst of a six-game hit streak and drove in four runs in the Villanova series.
Noting the Cavalier Pitchers
• For the third-straight weekend the trio of Noah Murdock, Griff McGarry and Mike Vasil will get starts on the bump.
• Noah Murdock moves to Friday night after two no decisions in two starts. Last weekend against Villanova he struck out a career-high, seven batters and has recorded five or more strikeouts in his last three starts dating back to last season.
• McGarry had his best start of his UVA career, establishing career highs in innings pitched (6.0) and strikeouts (9) last weekend against Villanova. He finished strong, retiring the final seven batters he faced and earned his first collegiate victory.
• Vasil needed just 19 pitches to get through the first two innings against Villanova and took a no-decision in a 7-3 victory in the nightcap of a doubleheader. He allowed one run in 4.2 innings, striking out four.
