UVA’s Second Varsity Eight Wins Twice at B1G/ACC Regatta
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — No. 3 Virginia’s Second Varsity Eight raced to a pair of wins to highlight action at the B1G/ACC Regatta Saturday (April 3) on Griggs Reservoir in Columbus, Ohio.
The Cavaliers won four races overall, competing against No. 6 Ohio State and No. 18 Minnesota, and No. 7 Michigan and Michigan State in the event.
“I thought our 2V8 raced especially well in their two wins, and the V8 responded well with a win over Michigan after a tough loss to Ohio State,” UVA head coach Kevin Sauer said. “The 2V4 also had a nice win. Many thanks to OSU for hosting.”
UVA won two races against second-place Ohio State, claiming wins in the Second Varsity Eight (6:56.50-7:01.10) and Second Varsity Four (8:04.90-8:09.66). The Buckeyes defeated the second-place Cavaliers in the Varsity Eight (6:38.10-6:42.49), Varsity Four (7:56.00-8:00.52) and Third Varsity Eight (7:14.50-7:16:35).
The Cavaliers won a pair of races against the Wolverines and Spartans. UVA topped second-place Michigan in the Varsity Eight (7:00.30-7:05.47) and Second Varsity Eight (7:16.10-7:22.08). The Wolverines outraced the runner-up Cavaliers in the Varsity Four (8:13.90), Second Varsity Four (8:17.90-8:28.18) and Third Varsity Eight (7:14.50-7:16:35).
Virginia returns to action on Saturday and Sunday, April 17-18, at the B1G Invite in Cincinnati, Ohio.
