NOTES ABOUT THE MATCH

  • This is the Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference (MASC) opener for both teams
  • Virginia played two matches during the 2021 COVID-19 season, both were against Navy. UVA won the opener 6-3, playing with a depleted lineup, and swept the second 9-0
  • Virginia starts the season ranked No. 7 in the College Squash Preseason Rankings
  • UVA ended the 2019-20 season at No. 5, its highest-ever ranking
  • The Cavaliers return their top two players from the 2019-20 season after neither competed in collegiate matches last year
  • 2019-20 Mid-Atlantic Squash Conference Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year Omar El Torkey went 15-1 in the regular season and 16-4 overall his freshman year
  • 2019-20 First Team All-American Aly Hussein moved up to No. 100 in the PSA world squash rankings this fall. Hussein, who went 18-2 in his freshman season, played in the PSA World Championships in Chicago in July
  • El Torkey and Hussein both played at the top of the ladder for the Cavaliers in 2019-20
  • Sophomore Taha Dinana is slated to make his delayed collegiate debut. Fellow sophomore Myles McIntyre played against Navy last year in the 1 and 2 positions
  • Will Holey is the only fourth year on the squad. Holey, one of this year’s team captains, played 2 and 3 during the 2019-20 regular season

SCOUTING THE MIDSHIPMEN

  • Navy opened play last weekend in Chicago, where it captured 9-0 victories over Chicago, Indiana, Washington University in St. Louis, Ohio State and Northwestern.
  • There will be a short dedication ceremony for the Prager Family Squash Facility prior to the start of Wednesday’s match. Navy’s squash facility has been renovated over the last year
  • Virginia leads the all-time series 3-1

ON THE HORIZON

  • The men’s and women’s teams begin a stretch of six straight matches against Ivy League opponents when they play at Yale on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. and at Columbia on Sunday, Nov. 14 at 11 a.m.
