The Virginia men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams travel to Atlanta for the 2022 ACC Championships that run Tuesday, Feb. 15 through Saturday, Feb. 19 at Georgia Tech’s McAuley Aquatic Pavilion.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Tuesday will feature men’s and women’s diving and the 800 free relay. Prelims start at 11 a.m. and finals at 4:30 p.m.

Wednesday-Saturday will have prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m. Saturday’s 1650 free will begin at 3:30 p.m.

  • Virginia’s women remain No. 1 in the CSCAA poll after finishing 6-0 in dual meets.
  • UVA is one of eight ACC women’s teams are ranked in the CSCAA poll, tied for the most of any conference. NC State (4), Louisville (7), North Carolina (21), Virginia Tech (22), Notre Dame (23), Florida State (24) and Duke (T25) also are ranked among the top 25.
  • Virginia’s men are ranked No. 15 in the most recent poll, joined by NC State (2), Virginia Tech (8), Louisville (10), Florida State (21) and Georgia Tech (22).

  • Virginia’s women are aiming for its third straight women’s team ACC Championship; the Cavaliers have won 12 of the last 14 ACC crowns.
  • The defending National Champions have the top times in the ACC in eight events.
  • The Cavaliers return ACC Champions Kate Douglass (100 free, 100 fly), Jessica Nava (200 fly), Ella Nelson (400 IM) and Alex Walsh (200 IM).
  • Douglass has the fastest time in the NCAA in three events, 50 free (21.27), 200 breaststroke (2;03.14) and 200 IM (1:52.21).
  • Walsh holds the fastest time in the country in the 400 IM (4:01.40).

  • UVA’s men finished fourth at the 2021 ACC Championships.
  • Matt Brownstead was ACC Champion in the 50 and 100 freestyle in 2021.
  • Brownstead holds the second-fastest time in the ACC in the 100 free, fourth in the 50 free and eighth in the 200 free.
  • Matt King ranks fourth in the ACC in the 100 free.
  • Justin Grender has the fifth-fastest 200 back time in the ACC.
  • Noah Nichols ranks fifth in the ACC in the 100 and 200 breaststroke and Scooter Iida has the 10th and seventh best times in the ACC in the 100 and 200 breast.
  • Matthew Styczen and Casey Storch rank third and fourth in the ACC, respectively, in the 400 IM.

ABOUT OUR COACHES

  • Head coach Todd DeSorbo was named the U.S. women’s head coach for the 2022 FINA World Championships that will take place June 18-July 3, 2022, in Budapest, Hungary.
  • DeSorbo served as an assistant coach for Team USA at the Tokyo Olympics.
  • Associate head coach Blaire Bachman was named an assistant coach for the FINA Short Course World Championships that were held in December, 2021.
