Virginia Announces Nine Incoming Student-Athletes

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia head coach Michele Madison has announced that  Sloan Davidson (Houston, Tex.), Lauren Kenah (Franconia, Pa.), Daniela Mendez-Trendler (Towson, Md.), Caroline Nemec (Darien, Conn.), Madison Orsi (Downington, Pa.), Isabelle Roskott (Rotterdam, Netherlands), Abigail Shim (Charlottesville, Va.) and Jet Trimborn (Bussum, Netherlands) will join the field hockey team as freshmen for the 2022 season. Additionally, Lindsay Dickinson (Glenn Mills, Pa.) will join the team as a grad transfer from UConn.

“Today’s collegiate sports have more moving parts impacting rosters than ever before,” Madison said. “With that being said, this incoming class has an opportunity to thrive in these times of change. We are so fortunate to have the reputation of UVA’s elite academic and athletic excellence and a very willing faculty and staff to navigate the times so we can still commit the country’s best. Eight incomings committed to UVA during the pandemic. MAX field hockey has three of these players ranked in their 2022 top-10 class, and four are NFHCA High School All-Americans. My comments will be brief on each, as their collective value and upside are even more promising and exciting.”

Sloan Davidson  (Houston, Texas)
5-7, Midfielder, St. John’s School

• 2021 NFHCA First Team High School All-American after being named to the third team in her sophomore season (2019)
• 2021 West/Mid-West All-Region First Team
• MAX Field Hockey Class of 2022 Top-50
• Two-time NFHCA High School All-Region West Team
• In her senior season, scored 45 goals and 19 assists; finished her prep career with 92 careers goals and 40 assists
• Two-time Southwest Preparatory All-Conference Team
• Selected for the USA Field Hockey 2022 Rise Selection Camp
• Also plays soccer and lacrosse at St. John’s School
• Was named a USA Lacrosse High School All-American in 2021
• Plays on the Texas Pride club team

Madison on Davidson
“Sloan will bring significant speed up front by creating early depth on the counter and closing speed on the press. In the open field, she is a big threat.”

Lindsay Dickinson (Glenn Mills, Pennsylvania)
5-5, Back, UConn

• Played four seasons for the Huskies (2018-21), appearing in 75 games with 72 starts, scoring three goals with nine assists for 15 points
• Also has three career defensive saves
• Had a career-best five assists her senior season
• 2021 NFHCA Mideast Region Second Team. All-BIG EAST Second Team and BIG EAST All-Tournament team
• 2018 and 2019 US U-19 Junior National Team member
• Competed in four years of varsity field hockey at Villa Maria Academy, leading her team to two PIAA State Championships (2014, 2017)
• 2017 NFHCA  High School First Team All-Region selection, NHFCA First Team All-State and NFHCA Second Team All-American

Madison on Dickinson
“Lindsay is a knowledgeable defender with international experience and is effective on both sides of the ball. Defensively, she defends the passing lanes well and possesses obvious field awareness backed by the connections she makes upfield. I expect Lindsay will challenge for a spot in the back four.”

Lauren Kenah  (Franconia, Pennsylvania)
5-5, Midfielder, Souderton Area High School

• 2021 PA High School Field Hockey Coaches Assn. All-State First Team
• 2021 MAX Field Hockey First Team All-Region
• Four-time All-Conference Suburban One League  – Colonial Division, including three first-team honors
• Two-time The Reporter/Times Herald/Montgomery Media All-Area First Team
• In her senior season, led Souderton Area High School in points scored (28 goals & 17 assists), ranking second in the Suburban One League
• 2021 USA Field Hockey Rise Selection Camp and Rise Junior National Team
• Former member of the US U16 Junior National Team
• Member of WC Eagles club team, the 2021 U19 National Club Champions
• Also plays lacrosse at Souderton Area High School, being named the most improved player in 2019

Madison on Kenah
“Lauren’s fundamentals and tactical game suit any midfield position. She finds the open player quickly and delivers the build-up passes with precision. Her aggressive play and physicality will give her a chance to compete for playing time early.

Daniela Mendez-Trendler  (Towson, Maryland)
5-9, Midfielder, Garrison Forest School

• Two-time Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland All-conference “A”, All-Metropolitan, and All-Region
• Former member of the USA U-16 Junior National Team

• Invited to the USA Field Hockey RISE selection camp

Madison on Mendez-Trendler
“Dani’s versatility will create havoc. She is strong on the ball and uses her body to gain a positional advantage. She attacks space with power and skill, creating needed separation to execute a quick shot or pass. Her defensive tenacity will add even more teeth to our press. By the season’s end, I anticipate she will have significant minutes under her belt.”

• 2018 Final Four in ABN-AMRO Dutch Championship 3 vs 3 (out of 160 teams)
• 2018-19 South-Holland of Dutch Hockey Association regional team
• Winner of Dutch National Championship Girls C1 2018-2019 with HC Rotterdam
• Her club team was leading the league in 2019-20 when the season was canceled due to COVID-19 and her current team was leading the Girls A1 division in 2021-22 when the season was suspended because of COVID-19

Abbigail Shim  (Charlottesville, Va.)
5-4, Midfielder, St. Anne’s-Belfield

• 2019 Central Virginia Player of the Year
• 2018 and 2019 Blue Ridge Conference Player of the Year
• Three-time First Team All-State and First Team All-Conference
• 2018 and 2019 All-Central Virginia First Team
• Played three years at Covenant before playing at STAB her senior season
• Also played soccer and lacrosse at Covenant
• Younger sister of current Cavalier Lizzy Shim

Jet Trimborn  (Bussum, Netherlands)
5-9, Goalkeeper, Vitus College

• Member of the Dutch Junior National Team at the U15, U16, U18 and U19 levels
• Played with the Gooische club team in the highest Dutch league, winning the Dutch national championship for outdoor and finishing second in the indoor title at the U12 level

“Jet has played at the highest levels of age groups in Holland and internationally. Her style will add a different dimension to the goalie team with her aggressive shot denial defense. It will enhance the goalkeeper squad  and make our attackers better, too.”
