CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia sophomore Jake Gelof was selected as a member of the 2021-22 Division I Academic All-America First Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Gelof is the first UVA baseball Academic All-American since Danny Hultzen in 2010 and 2011.

Gelof, a media studies major, is the seventh Cavalier in program history to garner Academic All-America honors and the fourth to be listed on the first team. Earlier this year, Gelof was a CoSIDA First Team Academic All-District honoree. As a freshman last season, Gelof was a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Honor Roll.

On the field in 2022, Gelof put together one of the best offensive seasons in UVA history helping him earn Third Team All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball Newspaper and First Team All-ACC accolades. He was a semifinalist for both the Dick Howser Trophy and the Golden Spikes award, the top two honors in college baseball.  Gelof batted .377 (80-for-212) with 21 home runs and a school-record 81 RBI. His 21 homers were second to Brian Buchanan’s 22 in 1994 for the most in school history.
