CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 4 Virginia women’s soccer team closed out its preseason exhibitions with a 1-1 draw at No. 9 Michigan on Saturday (Aug. 13).

Rising fifth-year Alexa Spaanstra scored the goal for the Cavaliers, collecting the rebound after her initial shot was deflected.

“We played a very good first half,” said Virginia head coach Steve Swanson. “We were much improved from our performance on Wednesday, which was good to see. In the second half we did not have as much quality, especially in the final third, but there were a lot of positives to take from the game. We obviously were disappointed to not get the result, but overall we are getting better which is important this time of year.”

Virginia opens the 2022 season on Thursday (Aug. 18) when the Cavaliers host George Mason in a 7 p.m. contest at Klöckner Stadium. Tickets are on sale now at www.UVATix.com.
