CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – A pair of Virginia softball players were recognized by Extra Inning Softball with selection to preseason player lists as the organization releases it’s overall player and position rankings this week.

Right-handed pitcher and graduate transfer Jenny Bressler was tabbed as the No. 98 overall player nationally as part of the Top 100 players list, while junior catcher Leah Boggs was named the No. 23 catcher nationally on the publication’s Top 25 catchers list.

Extra Inning Softball will continue releasing its position rankings throughout the week.

In her time at UNLV, Bressler struck out 599 batters, the fourth-most in program history, and posted 78 career wins which ranks second all-time at UNLV. She finished her senior season with the Rebels with 225 strikeouts to set the single-season mark at UNLV. She was a four-time Mountain West All-Conference first team selection and a two-time NFCA All-Region selection. Bressler was named to the All-Tournament Team at the National Invitational Softball Championship (NISC) in May after helping UNLV to a runner-up finish.

Boggs enters her junior season after earning All-Region honors from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association a year ago. She hit .289 for the season with four home runs, a pair of triples and 13 doubles. Boggs scored 23 runs while driving in 24 RBI for the season. A defensive stalwart behind the plate, she fielded at a .991 clip and led the ACC with 16 baserunners caught stealing.

Virginia opens the 2023 season on February 9 with a pair of games in a tournament hosted by Houston. The home opener is set for February 23 against Longwood. Season tickets are on sale at UVATix.com.
