CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia senior Kate Douglass was named the CSCAA Women’s Swimmer of the Meet and Todd DeSorbo was named Women’s Swim Coach of the Year after helping Virginia to its third consecutive NCAA Women’s Swimming & Diving Championship.

Douglass was the only swimmer to win all three individual events and she was part of four of UVA’s five relay NCAA Champions. The Pelham, N.Y., native set American, NCAA & US Open records in all three of her individual events. Douglass won the 200-yard IM, 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard breaststroke. She defended her titles in both the 100 fly and 200 breast. Douglass closed out her NCAA career with seven individual NCAA titles and eight relay championships.

DeSorbo led the Cavaliers to their third consecutive NCAA Championship, becoming just the fifth program in history to win three consecutive championships. This year UVA won 11 events, sweeping all five relays and adding six individual titles. UVA is just the fourth program to win all five relays at NCAAs. DeSorbo also saw UVA swimmers drop six American, NCAA & US Open record times during the meet and three UVA records.

UVA had 12 swimmers earn All-America honors and 47 total honors throughout the week. Douglass, junior Alex Walsh and sophomore Gretchen Walsh each maxed out with seven All-America honors, three individual and four relay honors.

The awards were determined by a nationwide vote of CSCAA-member Division I head swimming coaches and head diving coaches. All-Americans are selected on the basis of their finish at the NCAA Championships and a team’s current membership with the CSCAA.  Only student-athletes who competed in their championship finals are eligible for All-America Honors. NCAA relays & individuals must score in the top 8 to earn first-team honors while those who finish ninth through sixteenth earn second-team honors.
