CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia head men’s soccer coach, George Gelnovatch announced Monday (July 17) that Adam Perron has been promoted to associate head coach while Jermaine Birriel has been promoted to assistant coach.

“We are excited to promote Jermaine Birriel from his operations position to an assistant coaching position. He has demonstrated a work ethic and competency that makes him very deserving of this promotion within our program,” said Gelnovatch. “We are also excited to announce Adam Perron as an associate head coach. Adam has played a vital role as our recruiting coordinator and developed into what I believe is one of the better recruiters in country. Coach Matt Chulis remains our top associate head coach and I can’t speak enough about his impact over the years on this program.”

Perron, who enters his third season with Virginia,  has been elevated to associate head coach after previously serving as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

“I am extremely grateful and honored to be elevated to the role of associate head coach here at UVA and so thankful for the trust and belief that Coach Gelnovatch and Coach Chulis have shown me over the past three years,” said Perron. “Being a part of this prestigious program, community, and institution has been a dream come true for me and I’ve learned and grown so much from being immersed in this winning culture. I can’t wait to see what the coming years have in store for us as a program and family starting with this fall 2023 season.”

Birriel is promoted to assistant coach after two seasons at Virginia serving as the program’s director of operations.

“The past two years have been a great experience at UVA and I am excited to move into a new role,” said Birriel. “I am thankful to Coach Gelnovatch and the rest of the staff for giving me the opportunity and I am looking forward to competing for championships with this program.”
