BALTIMORE, Md. – The Virginia volleyball team (6-2) won 10 of the last 13 points in the fourth set to knock off UMBC (5-3) 27-25, 21-25, 25-19, 28-26 Sunday afternoon (Sept. 10) at Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena.
The Cavaliers posted 17.0 total blocks, which is good for fifth all-time in UVA program history.
Middle blocker Abby Tadder notched her first career double-double with 13 kills and a match-high 12 blocks. Lauryn Bowie (17 kills, 4 blocks) and Chloe Wilson (9 blocks) also chipped in for the Hoos.

SET 2: UMBC 25, Virginia 21
Virginia stayed within striking distance of the Retrievers throughout set No. 2, eventually forcing a UMBC timeout as UVA cut the lead to one [19-20]. However the hosts scored four unanswered points after the break to set up match point. Virginia scored twice in an attempt to make a final push, but ultimately fell short as UMBC took the second set to even the match, 1-1.

Virginia and UMBC continued to keep things close in the third set as the two sides traded short scoring spurts but neither team was able to take a commanding lead. SET 4: Virginia 28, UMBC 26
The Cavaliers trailed 23-17 in set No. 4 but erupted on a 7-0 run to level the game.
