COLUMBIA, S.C. – Six members of the Virginia men’s tennis team competed as individuals at the Gamecock Ranked +1 tournament Sept. 15-17 in Columbia, S.C.
In the first tournament of fall competition, Jeffrey von der Schulenburg advanced to the finals of the A singles bracket, but was edged 6-4, 6-4 by Filippo Moroni of Wake Forest in the final. Von der Schulenburg went 3-1 in singles over the weekend.
Alexander Kiefer and Edoardo Graziani both played in the B singles bracket with Douglas Yaffa, James Hopper and Stafan Regalia playing in the C draw, which was round-robin play instead of a traditional bracket.
Hopper and Graziani went 2-1 as a doubles team in the B bracket. Kiefer and von der Schulenburg partnered in A doubles.
The tournament featured players from Arizona, Auburn, Columbia, Duke, Michigan State, North Carolina, NC State and Wake Forest.
The Cavaliers will have players competing on both coasts next week as some will head to California to compete in the Battle in the Bay Classic, hosted by the University of San Francisco, while others will play in the Orange and Blue Classic, UVA’s lone home tournament in the fall.
