LYNCHBURG, Va. – Members of the Virginia men’s tennis team competed at the ITA Atlantic Regional Tournament, held Nov. 11-16 at the Liberty Tennis Center in Lynchburg, Va.
Senior Jeffrey von der Schulenburg advanced to the semifinals of the singles draw before falling against Mathis Bondaz of VCU on Monday morning (Oct. 16).
Von der Schulenburg and fellow senior Alexander Kiefer advanced to the semifinals of the doubles draw but withdrew. Kiefer had advanced to the singles quarterfinals before withdrawing from that bracket.
Grad students James Hopper and Edoardo Graziani as well as sophomore Måns Dahlberg all competed in the main draw of singles with Graziani and Dahlberg advancing to the Round of 16 and Hopper making the quarterfinals where he fell in a match against von der Schulenburg.
Hopper and Graziani partnered in the doubles draw with Dahlberg playing with freshman Dylan Dietrich. Both tandems advanced to the second round before suffering a defeat.
Freshman Stefan Regalia began play in the prequalifying singles draw (referred to as the ‘bronze draw’), winning three matches to advance to qualifying play. He won his opener in that draw before falling in the second round. Sophomores Douglas Yaffa and Ty Switzer also competed in qualifying singles (referred to as the ‘silver draw’).
The ITA Atlantic Regional is the feeder tournament for the ITA Fall National Championships. The finalists from the singles and doubles draw automatically earn spots in the final championship of the individual season.
