Cavaliers Earn Four Medals to Open 2023 Pan American Games
SANTIAGO, Chile – UVA alum Paige Madden won gold and current Virginia swimmers, Noah Nichols, Reilly Tiltmann and Jack Aikins, picked up silver medals on the first night of the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile.
Madden opened the night with her gold-medal swim in the women’s 400-meter freestyle. She swam a Pan-American Record with a time of 4:06.45 to become a Pan Am Champion.
Senior Noah Nichols helped Team USA to a 1-2 finish in the men’s 100-meter breaststroke by winning silver in a time of 1:00.43.
Senior Reilly Tiltmann was part of Team USA’s women’s 4×100-meter freestyle relay, swimming in prelims to qualify the team for finals. The relay won sliver with a time of 3:38.42.
Junior Jack Aikins swam on the prelims and finals relay team for the men’s 4×100-meter freestyle relay. Aikins swam the third leg of the relay in the finals as Team USA won sliver with a time of 3:14.22.
Sophomore Emma Weber qualified for the A Final of the women’s 100-meter breaststroke. Weber placed fifth overall with a time of 1:08.13. Senior Anna Keating made the B Final and took 15th overall with a time of 1:11.73 in the event.
