Virginia Swimming & Diving Tops Texas in Dual Meet Action
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams capped off the two-day meet with Texas by sweeping the dual meet portion of the weekend. UVA’s men won 109-58 and the women won 119-48 on Saturday morning at the Aquatic & Fitness Center.
The Cavaliers in total won 15 of the 18 events on Saturday. Freshman Tess Howley and senior Alex Walsh both finished with two individual event wins and UVA won all four relays.
WOMEN’S RESULTS
- The Cavalier women won each of the swimming events and had a second-place finish in Saturday’s diving.
- Virginia won the 400-yard medley relay in 3:27.56 with junior Gretchen Walsh, graduate student Jasmine Nocentini, A. Walsh and sophomore Aimee Canny, respectively.
- Freshman Cavan Gormsen won the 1000-yard free with a time of 9:46.92 and sophomore Sophia Knapp picked up a third-place finish in 9:54.50.
- Freshman Tess Howley added a win in the 200-yard back, easily touching first in 1:53.73. Senior Reilly Tiltmann was second in 1:56.20 and junior Ella Bathurst finished third (1:56.21).
- Howley completed her sweep of individual events, winning the 200-yard fly in 1:55.06.
- A. Walsh and graduate student Ella Nelson finished 1-2 in the 200-yard breast, just .7 seconds apart. Walsh won in 2:08.16 and Nelson was second in 2:08.86.
- G. Walsh won her third individual event of the weekend and Nocentini was second (47.82) in the 100-yard free. Walsh’s time of 46.42 eclipses her own best time of the season so far in the NCAA.
- A. Walsh and Nelson took the top two spots again, this time in the 200-yard IM. Walsh won in 1:57.26 and Nelson was second in 1:58.03.
- The women closed out the meet with Canny, Nocentini, G. Walsh and senior Maxine Parker, respectively, winning the 400-yard free relay in 3:12.74.
MEN’S RESULTS
- UVA opened day two with a win in the 400-yard medley relay, as senior Will Cole, senior Noah Nichols, senior Tim Connery and junior Connor Boyle, respectively, combined for a time of 3:11.05.
- Junior Tanner Haring swam a 9:16.79 to win the 1000-yard free.
- Cole and freshman Will Thompson went 1-2 in the 200-yard back. Cole won the event in 1:46.34 and Thompson finished second in 1:46.40
- Nichols and junior Max Iida took the top two spots in the 200-yard breast, with Nichols winning in 1:56.12 and Iida placing second in 1:58.60.
- Boyle won the 100-yard free, just out-touching Texas’s Luke Hobson. Boyle finished in 44.20 ahead of Hobson’s 44.39. Connery took third in 44.52.
- Sophomore Sebastien Sergile won the 200-yard fly with a time of 1:46.91, leading a trio of Cavaliers that took the top three spots. Junior Matt Styczen was second (1:48.00) and junior Colin Bitz was third (1:49.10).
- In the final event of the day, Boyle, freshman Hayden Bellotti, Sergile and Connery, respectively, won the 400-yard free relay with a time of 2:56.22.
DIVING
- Junior Lizzy Kaye with a season-best score of 344.03.
- Junior Nicholas Sanders finished fourth for the men with a score of 308.70 on the 1-meter.

Virginia will compete in the Tennessee Invitational, Nov. 15-17 in Knoxville, Tenn.
