UVA Claims Varsity Eight and Varsity Four at Rivanna Romp
EARLYSVILLE, Va. — The Virginia rowing team won two of three races at the Rivanna Romp Sunday (Nov. 12) on the Rivanna Reservoir. UVA won the Varsity Eight and Varsity Four, and placed second in the Novice Eight as the Cavaliers concluded their fall season.
The annual regatta featured crews from Duke, Louisville, Minnesota, Navy and North Carolina. Virginia has captured the last 17 Varsity Eight races at the Romp, while the UVA Varsity Four has won 14 of the last 16 races.
UVA’s Varsity Eight claimed the win at the Rivanna Romp, completing the 4,000-meter course with a winning time of 12:52.9. UVA’s 2V8 finished second at 13:04.3 followed by Duke’s V8 at 13:17.8 and Minnesota’s V8 at 13:19.1.
The Cavaliers’ Second Varsity Four defeated UVA’s Third Varsity Four 14:20.4-14.34.5. UVA’s Varsity Four placed third at 14:34.7, while Duke’s Varsity Four placed fourth at 14:44.8.
Duke’s Novice Eight defeated UVA’s N8 13:44.1-14:06.3.
“We’re so proud of how this team raced and performed, but more importantly, who this team is as a collective,” UVA co-captains Kate Kelly and Beatrice Jones said. “We feel privileged and grateful every day to be a part of something so special.
