CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. –  The No. 1 Virginia men’s tennis team (2-0) plays at No. 3 Texas (2-0) on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 6 p.m. ET (5 p.m. local time) at the Texas Tennis Center in Austin, Texas.

NOTING THE CAVALIERS

  • The 2022 and 2023 NCAA Champions open the spring season ranked No. 1 in the ITA team rankings. UVA has been ranked No. 1 since the end of the 2023 season
  • The Cavaliers bring a 24-match win streak into the contest. Additionally, the Cavaliers have not lost an outdoor match since falling to USC in the Round of 16 of the 2021 NCAA Tournament (5/17/21)
  • Grad student James Hopper was named the ACC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after going 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles in last week’s doubleheader against Liberty and James Madison
  • Hopper and fellow graduate student Edoardo Graziani went 2-0 on the top doubles court, picking up a pair of dominant 6-1 victories
  • Freshman Dylan Dietrich had an impressive collegiate dual match debut, picking up a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles in the Liberty match
  • Senior Jeffrey von der Schulenburg picked up his team-leading 12th singles victory of the year in the Liberty match

 ABOUT THE MATCH-UP

  • Virginia and Texas faced one another in the NCAA Semifinals last year with the Cavaliers logging a 4-1 win against the top-seeded Longhorns. The Cavaliers won the doubles point in 28 minutes with a pair of 6-1 victories and then took three of four completed singles matches. Alexander Kiefer won the clinching point in a third-set tiebreaker on court five. Virginia was leading on both remaining singles courts when play was abandoned
  • Virginia is 11-2 all-time against the Longhorns and has won the last seven meetings. Texas’ last victory against the Cavaliers was a 4-3 win on Feb. 12, 2006 in Charlottesville

  • On Sunday (Jan. 21) the Cavaliers host No. 5 South Carolina at 1 p.m. at the Boar’s Head Sports Club
  • It is the second top-five match-up of the week for Virginia
